I have some episodes of anime or TV shows that won’t play once downloaded, giving me the error " An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again". Those episodes work fine if i play them without downloading them, and i always play them using the original quality.
I have no problem downloading and playing other H264 episodes (with a different bitrate/bit depth) which i thought might be causing the issue. Same for the audio codec (AAC), i know some episodes i can download and watch have AAC audio.
EDIT: same for the subtitles, i can play other files with .ass subtitles with no issues
Oh yep, that seems to be the issue. Any idea if Plex Android could eventually support those? My phone is a Pixel 7 Pro which does allow to record 10 bit depths videos, so in theory it should be possible i think (of course i have no idea how complex to implement it’d be)
That depends on the general player engine of Android. Plex doesn’t provide its own engine, like e.g. Kodi or VLC do. It just uses what is already there.
So far, I’m not optimistic about support for that. 10 bit in H.264 has always been a rarely used feature, with practically no use by legal video sources. And that is what the majority of device manufacturers use to develop and test.
