I am not sure what happened, but any content I add to my system since November 7 no longer generates video thumbnails. I have scheduled tasks to run from midnight to 6am and I set the thumbnail generation to run as a scheduled task and yet I get no thumbnails. I cannot find anything in the logs which says anything about the thumbnails. The logs do contain information on Chapter thumbnails and those are being generated for all the content. Also all other tasks like database backups are working as scheduled so i don’t think this has to do with the scheduled tasks not running.
As a test I moved the scheduled tasks to run during the day so I could watch it. It started scanning my libraries and generated chapter thumbnails for the few new items that were added since the last scan but not a single preview thumbnail was generated.
Next I set it to generate thumbnails on a schedule and when new items are added, and then I added a new item. Right away the system started generating thumbnails and I could find all sorts of entries in the log about the thumbnails being generated. I guess I am going to have to leave it at this setting if I hope to get thumbnails but I would much rather have it run “off hours”.
The two main questions are 1. What can I do to troubleshoot this issue? 2. How do I get the system to generate thumbnails for all the content it skipped?
