I had to reinstall Plex on a new PC (Windows 10 Pro). My video files are movies and TV shows. I have those separated into their own file folders on my PC. When I go to add a new library of TV Shows to my Plex, I selected The “+” sign next to my server name, selected “TV Shows”, then browse for media files and I select the file folder “TV Shows” on my PC. Plex begins populating the library, but I find that a lot of the shows do not get added. One season of a show (in its own folder as are the other seasons) doesn’t get added, but the others do. I don’t know how to fix that. This did not happen when I added these same files to the Windows 10 PC I replaced.
Also, is it possible to add a second media type, like “Other Videos” to a library already populated with “movies” or “TV Shows?”
This has already been a hassle because I have two PCs (thus two media servers" and four HDDs of media files on one of those PCs.
Thanks for the help!
The usual suspect in such a case is bad naming. Potentially you used to use another agent in your original setup that was a bit more flexible.
How are the seasons in question and the individual episode files named?
No. No mixing mixing media types in Movie or TV Show libraries. Doing so will throw off the Plex scanners/agents. Media may be mis-recognized or simply not appear.
Can you provide an example (screenshot) of one of the shows that isn’t appearing? @FordGuy61 is more than likely correct - Plex needs neat and tidy naming conventions.
Here are screenshots of two sets of video files. They are of the same TV series, different seasons. I have all five seasons of this TV Series and each season is in its own file folder within the file folder “Plex TV Shows.” The "TV Shows library on my Plex server is where these and all TV Series shows go.
Of the five seasons, two are not populating even though they all are of the same format. I changed the file names in one of the non-populating seasons to the format, “show title SxxExx.” That didn’t make a difference. The first screenshot is the season that populated right away. The second one will not populate (even after changing the file names to end with SxxExx. I have other TV shows that are populated and their titles end with SxxExx. Thank you for the assistance!
Did Populate:
Did Not Populate
You seem to have gotten the schema wrong.
It should be:
Library Folder
Show Name (year the show first aired)
Season XX
Show Name (year the show first aired) - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext
Not
episode title sXXeYY.ext
Thanks! Will you post a screenshot of how that looks in the file folder?
Sorry but I don’t understand how that should look in the folder itself.
Here’s an example.
There’s a rather detailed description in the support article “Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files” linked above.
Thank you! I will look for those instructions. How does the folder organization look?
See my last screenshot.
In that case, my tv-show library is pointing at the tv-show (en) folder.
