Some media files will not play on apple TV, but others with the same codecs and file types will

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935
Player Version#: 7.1.1 (15801)

ok so I’ve notice this strange bug that has effected my movie library as of late, some of my movie files will not play on apple device such as my iPhone or apple tv 4k, but seam to play fine on the desktop an Roku, from examining these files and ones that do work there is seemingly no difference between the broken and working files, there the same container, same codec for both video and audio, both have the same type of subtitle, everything but yet one will play and the other will not, below I will post the XML as a text file of a broken and a working file for comparison;

Broken.txt (25.8 KB)
Working.txt (45.3 KB)

What do you mean by “not playing” – will you get an error message, will it start playing and get stuck, play with stuttering or really not playing at all, not starting at all etc.
Could you start playback and afterwards pull the logs from your device?

like I will press play, it usually just sits there for about a minute, then will just pop an error saying something went wrong.

and I will try to get the logs

logging.txt (1003.8 KB) [Mod-Comment: ZIP file renamed as TXT]

not really able to see anything in there though… this is the apple TV by the way.

oh here is something new, i tied to play a file that said “something went wrong” error and it just plopped me into the menu like when you finish playing a video and it recommends other things to play

and here is the IOS log;

PlexDebugInfo-ETHREAL1-7.1-20782 (2020-06-12 09.15.34 -0700).zip (862.9 KB)

Are you using the old player in those devices?

thats exactly how the apple tv http gave it to me

both show to be using the latest version of the app,
and to my knowledge I’m not using the experimental player (as I cant as I don’t have premium)

oh just found the setting in both, no I’m not using the old player

so I may have found something?

in the server logs I found this;

Jun 11, 2020 23:38:47.587 [0x17012b000] WARN - HTTP error requesting POST http://127.0.0.1:32600/devices/discover (0, No error) (Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1 port 32600: Connection refused)

I may have the port blocked by firewall, would that be the casue?

So I guess just no more help…
