I’ve been experiencing some annoyance for a good while now. I can’t say when it started to happen - it may have always been the case - but I have some shows for which Plex sometimes fails to mark as played after they have finished. I think it happens to certain episodes from specific shows and I suspect it may be somehow related to the actual media files. Is it possible there is something wrong with the files that causes such behavior? They do play correctly without any issues and when browsing the season I see that the seek bar (or whatever the thing that tracks your progress on the episode is called) has filled up fully but they just don’t mark as finished and are considered as unwatched. The counter for remaining unwatched episodes also considers those as new content for its purposes. It’s really not a big issue but such things tend to annoy greatly me for no good reason and if there is a way to rectify them I’d feel that much better.
I’ve seen it happen a few times as well. It’s frustratingly hard to nail down some steps to reproduce it. I THINK it happens on my Nvidia Shield player (Android), but that is not my primary consumption device. Someone else in my house uses it a lot, but they are not sophisticated enough to mention to me when it happens.
I think it may happen when you do not let a show naturally run to the end of a file on its own. I think I’ve caused it once when I moved the progress bar to near the end of the video, but then hit ‘next file’ almost immediately. If I don’t let it play for a second or so at the new position, it records the video position but doesn’t seem to mark it as played after.
Right, I neglected to mention that I am using a Shield Pro 2019 and 90% of all my viewings pass through that device. As for not letting the episodes run out - I don’t think it’s that as the show that has this happen the most is a very old cartoon my sons watch a lot. When I say “a lot” I mean they sometimes binge-watch all 49 episodes in one sitting and almost always it’s all running on auto-paly and no one is skipping to the next episode. Something I’ve noticed is that there are specific episodes that do mark as played correctly while others distinct ones don’t. That’s why I suspect something in the media file itself may be causing it.
This totally happens on my NVDIA Shield Pro. I keep hoping for a fix. It specifically happens for me when a playlist is being played. The content (usually Music Videos, but also my Christmas playlists) finishes but, for whatever reason, it does not report the file as played and just has the scroll bar to the end.
