I’m having an issue with the new Video player on my Nvidia Shield TV (latest edition 2019 but it did the same with the 2017 version)
Indeed, whenever I watch something, it doesn’t always mark the items as fully watched
There is still few minutes left so the items can be considered as watched
But upon switching to the old player it all goes back to normal
Not sure if it’s an issue with my setup or not (especially as I’ve seen a similar issue declared on the forum before but closed since), so whatever help you can provide, would be dearly appreciated

This appears to be an issue still that is also not related to the fact that you run plex a server on the shield as well as I’m getting it with a windows server.
Anyways for more detailed information on how to reproduce it the shield plex app does not mark as played most of the time if you start a single episode as it doesn’t seem to properly close it out or something. Going back to the shield home will show the episode in progress still even after it is finished.
It does however mark episodes as watched if you are watching a series of episodes. So if you start a show with 10 episodes and watch 1 to 5 in a row all 5 will be marked watched but when you finish it later by watching 6-10 all at once the last one will not be marked as watched.

Okay few things
My plex server is not on the shield (it’s on a Fedora Server based Intel NUC Hades Canyon), the shield is used only as a player
Right now I’m binge watching a whole serie and I still have the same issue, meaning that some of the episode of the season have not been marked as watched so I have to go onto the single episode and manually mark them as watched
And it does the same whether it’s random episode, within a playlist I created, within a season queue, movie, shows
And that is for my android phone app and on my android TV app (on the Nvidia Shield TV)
But I’ve tested it on my work laptop (which is windows based) and it doesn’t seem to be doing it
Yeah this bug seems to be specific to android and perhaps even just to the shield TV? I don’t use normal android as a client ever so I can’t speak for that. The only good thing is how easy it is to reproduce so if a dev is alive they should be able to get to the bottom of it fairly easily.
You have the thread tagged as a shield server so you should prob remove that tag if you aren’t using the shield as a server. (I’m pretty sure that this is just a client issue anyways)
Just to bump this thread. Having the same problem on NVIDIA Shield 2019 with remote server (Ubuntu) when using new video player function. Some shows/movies don’t track play progress at all (not tracking if part played or even fully played) with the file remaining as completely unplayed.
Yes I’ve noticed that too that since few days ago (I think an update brought this up) I have some video that are not even registered as being played at all
Before all were at least tracked but it wasn’t marked “fully played”
Now I have some files that are not even played at all (from the get go)
I have the same issue, playing from my (remote) PMS 1.19.1.2645 to my Plex for Android (TV) 7.31.0.16802 (on a Shield TV) doesn’t show on the dashboard, nor will an episode get marked watched after you finish it.
Playing episodes from the same PMS on a Plex for Android 7.30.2.16712 (on a Fire HD 8) marks the episodes as watched just fine.
Work-around I found was to restart PMS followed by restarting the Shield TV, doing one of those or in the other sequence doesn’t help. Tonight I restarted PMS followed by the Shield TV and it worked only for one episode. The second episode already was not marked watched.
“Manually” marking episodes as watched works but is a pain.
Same issue here with the shield player. Just to add some color when I’m watching something in the shield it doesn’t even show up as playing on the plex dashboard or Tautulli and the like.
I can confirm a similar issue. When using the Shield as a player only it will sporadically not mark episodes etc as played. I am running the latest beta version for the player and server. The issue seems to have cropped up in the last few weeks or so for me.
I’ve noticed the same thing, it’s rendering the On Deck and Continue Watching menus useless.
My episodes are showing a progress meter at 100% and when I go to resume from the 100% mark my Plex either restarts or plays a fraction of a second then queues up the next episode

I’ve been having this problem on and off for a few months now. With the current 7.31 android version, when I finish watching an old comedy show, the episode only gets marked as watched about half the time. Previous incarnations of this bug would instead mark the next episode as watched instead and still leave 5 or 10 minutes remaining on the episode that I actually finished watching.
The reason that I mentioned old comedies is that the those files are always SD quality with lower bit rate and small file sizes – and they direct play. The Android app pre-caches as much of the stream in advance as possible. Often the the rest of the rest of the episode will be cached by the time I’m about halfway through a 22 minute episode.
So what I think is happening is that the android player doesn’t actually need to stream anything from the server for the last 10 minutes of the program. I suspect that the server is getting confused or abandoning the stream due to inactivity and everything is getting confused. The time left as still left to play might correspond to the point at with the app completed caching 100% of the rest of the program.
My 2 cents worth anyway. This bug happens to me 2 or 3 times every day and it always with old SD comedies with low bit rate.
I just watched 6 episodes of a TV show in a playlist (allowing the next episode to autoplay each time) and 5 out of 6 episodes were not marked as played. The progress bar was nearly full for the 5 episodes before I manually marked them as played.
As a side note, there was also intermittent video and audio freezing/choppiness/stuttering.

Have any of the Plex Devs looked into this? I am still experiencing this on the android app (Shield TV). Never marks a show as watched. We can’t be the only ones having these issues! Has anyone found any workaround?
