Two new problems with Nvidia shield

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: 7.31.0.16802

For about two weeks (probably after upgrading the Plex client or server), I started to see two new problems. This problem seems to happen only with the Nvidia shield (I cannot reproduce it with ipad, IOS and Apple tv 4k).

1- It doesn’t always keep the time where I left the video. I remember having this problem last year. It was fixed but it seems to came back.

2- When I start a stream, most often the server doesn’t even realize I play something. The video is playing on my shield but in the status, it’s like nothing is playing. So of course, Plex Dash, Tautulli , Varys, etc don’t see any stream.

Those two problems happen at the same time, always. If I notice it didn’t detect I was playing the file, it will not save where I left. I suppose this is logic since the server isn’t aware a video has started, it won’t know at which time it ended.

Killing the plex client on the Shield and open it again solves the problem…until it happens again (during the same day most of the time).

is this a known problem ?

thanks

No one? :frowning:

Ok I tried to look at the Plex server log while the problem happens. Unfortunately, nothing in the logs when it happens…

Is there a way to see if there is anything in the Plex client logs ? On the nvidia shield in that case

Same problem here. Seems to have started as you say a few weeks back, I’ve seen it mentioned here as well Android TV New Video Player - Issues w/ Items Marked as Watched It’s getting frustrating now, pretty much all the time get to the end of program and have to manually mark it as played.

Yes, Kriscii, yesterday I again started getting the variation of the problem where the episode I finished watching would be left partially played and the next episode would be marked as played even though I didn’t start watching that episode at all. Basically, after after every episode, I have to inspect to see what the heck the app did and then correct it. Like I said in the linked thread that you referenced, I strongly suspect that it has something to do with the app caching to the end of the episode when it is direct playing – resulting in no communication to the server for 10 or 15 minutes.

The new version released a couple of hours ago makes reference to fixing this sort of problem. Hopefully that’s true. Since I don’t have a plex pass, I will likely have to wait at least 2 more days before I can get it on the play store.

I’ve never tried it before but just loaded the Plex Pass early release and played 5 mins, paused and went back out but it didn’t save where I’d got to and just went back to the beginning. So no need getting excited with about that release, maybe before the full release they will get it working.

Any words from Plex on this problem ? Do they know at least ?

Just realised the early release is now working. All seems to be back to normal! Hopefully the official release will be out soon and it isn’t broken again before then

Just chiming in here I have been seeing issue 1 quite a lot of the last couple of weeks. Haven’t seen it in the last few nights but was definitely happening and has been very annoying.

A variation of this is watching a movie, pause, go off to do something, after 5 minutes the Shield screen saver kicks in and when you clear it you are back to the home screen. When you play the movie it starts from the beginning again.

Sometimes if you were lucky you could go to the main screen of Plex and you may find it at top with the correct resume point.

I’ve been noticing this for a while: No session status when starting playback on Shield over remote control API

Playback started directly from the Shield UI seems fixed now, but it still doesn’t show the status when it’s started from another device (ie, mobile or web client apps).
