Some movie content won't show under library

Server Version#: Version 3.27.1
Player Version#: N/A

Hello Everyone,
I use plex server on Windows 8.1 and some of the movie files (mp4) I put in my movie folder won’t show in my Library. I have many mp4 videos and Plex detects them fine. Under status I can see it processes the movie file however it won’t show. when I search the movie by name the movie comes up fine. I can’t figure out why it is doing it.

It’s not there but it’s there?

Yes exactly. When I search the title I can find it and if I want to I can add it in a playlist but in my movie library it won’t show. I have couple of titles just like that… I have recently updated my Server version but it didn’t help. I even tried to move it between folders and search it again. The only thing I have not done is to copy the movie to another non-Plex folder , delete the actual movie from plex and recopy it under the plex folder. Maybe it can find it by doing that…

Use the web app.
Click on such an item among the search results
Don’t click dead-center on the icon, but on the title text below to get to the ‘preplay screen’ of this item.
Then ‘edit’ this item (‘Edit’ is either under the ellipsis […] top, right or under the ‘pencil’ icon)

Now take a look at this item’s metadata
On the ‘General’ tab, see what’s in ‘Sort Title’. It may be different from what is under ‘Title’, which causes the item to appear in a different spot on the full list.

Do also progress to the ‘Tags’ tab, and see if the movie is a member of a collection.
If it is, then this movie might only appear if you open the collection. (this is a global option in the properties of the library and can also be overridden per collection)

Everything looks just fine under metadata. Titles etc. Posters, background every single thing seems ok.

Please post the content of the Plex XML info of such an item.

Here you go…

So the movie should appear under the letter ‘D’ in your movies list, because the ‘A’ was removed from the ‘Sort Title’

Is this movie a member of a Collection?

I usually sort by “Date added” so that I can see the latest additions first. I don’t go by the first letter. I’m sorry I don’t get what you mean by “member of a collection”… I found a work around since I can search the movie I add it to a playlist and once I browse that playlist I can access the movie that has same kind of problem. For some ,god knows why, strange reason it just won’t show under “Date Added” when I sort the usual way…

I explained that above.

Oh and yes when I sort by “title” the movie appears in there just not appears when I sort by “date added”…

That’s an interesting information.
According to the XML info, the movie was added to your library on
Tuesday, 13. March 2018 13:59

Is this the date range where you are expecting to see it?

It looks like the problem is right there because the correct date added should be 11 or 12 January 2019 nothing like march 2018. Somehow it stamps the date incorrect. As I told you it happens only to very few titles. Strange! BTW I already checked the duplicates…

According to this date, the movie (not this particular file, but the ‘Movie’ title) was already added to your server in March last year.

Is it possible that you had it already around this time?
Even if it was only a ‘preview’ file?

Or maybe a different movie was misrecognized by Plex as this movie?
(This can happen due to improper file names and also if you download/rip files directly into the folder which is ‘watched’ by the plex library.)

I guess it might have happened that way. 2 movies were lesser formats so I got better ones and I can understand those ones as it had created and stamped those earlier and when I added the new ones it created duplicates. I resolved those ones by deleting the old ones but this particular one I have no idea what I did and how Plex stamped it around that time. Out of those titles just a few are having this issue and they may very well be user error. Thanks for your time and help.
