Songs missing or not showing all the tracks. I think this seems to happen when the same song is in multiple albums, I am not sure. Looking closer when I try match, its trying to locate a match rather than using the metadata?
For example I might create a custom compilation of songs, for top 100 March, top 100 April, Album will be “TOP 100 March” Album artist will be “Various Artists” and Artist will be the actual artist. This works fine most of the time but then Plex simply fails to load or find other Albums.
One example, I have Backstreet Boys albums all tagged correctly.
When I search “Backstreet Boys” I get no albums, even though I have about 3.
There are also cases where songs in the same album show up as “single albums” meaning each album of the same name contains 1 song, a recent example 91 songs went correctly into the album and 14 went single. Metadata is 100% correct and I had to manually select each one and merge.
You want an additional folder level in there. You are missing the album artist level.
i.e. Music\Backstreet Boys\Backstreet Boys Essentials (2020)
If you have a sampler with various artists on it, you then stick it into an artist folder named “Various Artists”. The embedded meta tag for Album Artist must then also contain “Various Artists”.
You might want to remove the “APE” meta tags from your files.
Verify that each track is also tagged with a “Track #” metatag.
If this is a multi-disc compilation, you also want the disc number in the separate “Disc #” metatag.
You might have to use the Plex Dance (minus step 4) after changing embedded meta tags.
Same exact problem here, running the latest PMS on Windows 10. Fairly recent issues, too… my folders haven’t changed in years… suddenly, it looks very similar to what you’re describing.
I did the dance, and it fixed the album, so thanks.
Can you explain why this happens? For example I did try remove the one album affected… scan, empty trash, add it back but it doesn’t have the same effect. Why do we need to blast the whole thing, Shouldn’t the dance work on a folder level as well?
You had a mismatch at the Artist level. To clear that up, you need to remove that artist completely from the database. That requires Plex Dancing all albums of that artist and also all other albums which are involved in the mixup somehow.
The list is actually there the songs are just gone, Is it because the songs ids change from dance to dance? If that’s the case would it be possible (one day) to use a unique id for each song that is perhaps persisted in the mp3 tag data. First pass through the scan if the tag isn’t present just add a Guid?
