Sonic Analysis processing speed data point

Server Version#: 1.24.0.4930
Player Version#:

FYI - I started Sonic Analysis on my music library of 3521 albums last night. It just completed after 23 hours. I’m running Ubuntu on an Intel NUC8i5BEH.

My Windows server with a 10700k is doing approximately 90 albums in 20 minutes.

Edit to add: In the beginning I saw about a half dozen Plex processes in the Windows task manager. Now it’s down to one, and Plex’s total CPU load and sonic analysis speed has plummeted.

Oh, look at that, while I was typing it spun up another half dozen processes. Then they went away after a couple of minutes.

I’ll see what it looks like in the morning, that will provide a better average.

Edit to add: After running for 13 hours I can see it is about 35 albums per hour… much slower than at first.

I am seeing similar results - speed dropped dramatically after the first 1,000 or so (I have around 12K)

I saw my counter slow and eventually stop. When I took a closer look at SA I realized that it was getting stuck when the transcode process couldn’t get past a file. I don’t know how the client album counter works but perhaps if SA gets completely stuck it takes some time for the client counter to catch up to that reality.

I would check your PMS processes. In my case, both times SA got stuck, I had one transcoder process that would not go away. Killing it manually put SA back on track.

Mine is still going ~18 Hours or so at this point. Here are the fun things my box is doing:

Yes, a “regular” music scan is also going on.

Nothing appears stuck, so I think it’s just a matter of (a long) time now!

10,442 left…

Yeah, that looks healthy to me.

Make a sandwich, it’s gonna be a while!

It took me 24 hours to scan about 1300 albums with a Macbook Pro mid-2015 (Intel I7-4980HQ).

10,195…

Looking like 8 -9 more days and I should be all set!

That’s going to be a lot of sandwiches. You will probably be able to toast them on your server (one good use of the heat)

Business idea: Liquid Cooling CPU system that routes out to a grill-shaped heatsink!

So, final tally was 11 days

I started with 2075 albums on Saturday and I’m currently at 1848 albums going 24 hrs a day …I don’t get how some of yours is going so fast and mine looks like it’s gonna be months.

It’s a matter of:

  • how fast is the CPU in general
  • how many (real) cores does it have
  • how good is it at “machine learning” algorithms (newer top-end CPUs are significantly better at this)
