Sonos play counts and positions not saved

Hello all, Sonos play counts are not updating again, also it doesn’t remember where it was in an audio file. This impacts smart playlists (eg playing unplayed items) and my tracking of which files I’ve played and how far I’d got through them. In the past this has always been an issue that gets resolved without me changing anything so I suspect it’s a function of an external service but this hasn’t ever been confirmed. Just in case I updated my server to the latest plexpass version but still no updates on playcounts.

This is the “Now Playing” screen, while audio files are playing on Sonos, it sees the network traffic but does not realise anything is playing. This problem is identical to the other times it happens and has actually been happening for a few weeks now but I thought I’d leave it for a bit to see if anyone fixes it, but it seems it’s still not being tracked, fixed or otherwise dealt with.

Does anyone know of any alternatives to Plex that work better with Sonos? I’m basically after a proper podcast client that works via sonos, pocketcasts doesn’t have proper support, Plex can’t consistently track what’s been listened to, and the common solution of streaming to a chromecast plugged into an audio port is clumsy. When Plex works it’s the best solution I’ve found but it keeps breaking and spending a long time in the doldrums. I might have to try rigging up my own “radio station” that tracks what has and hasn’t been played.

Aha, it’s suddenly started working again without me having to do anything, hopefully it’ll keep working.
