Sonos playback not updating playcount since 16th Feb or so

Server Version#: 4.20.2
Player Version#: Sonos cloud service

Has anyone found that in the last 2 days or so, playing back via Sonos no longer updates the playcounts? I use dynamic playlists to create a playlist of files that have not been played yet and populate this with various shows and audiobooks, so once something has been played, it vanishes from the list. Since the 16th February the playcounts have not been updated and my Plex Media Server no longer registers the playback as happening, it used to show what I was playing in the “Dashboard” but now that’s empty. Tautilli also is no longer showing any activity related to Sonos playback. Has the cloud service been changed recently?

Here’s an example, I’m playing audio files to Sonos through plex, two have played but are still marked as unplayed, which means they do not get automatically removed from the dynamic playlist I am using. The screenshot here shows that I am sending to a local client (my sonos speakers) but “nothing is currently being played”. This wasn’t the case a few days ago so this is very recent. I’ve updated my plex server twice since then.

If I play the files through the Plex web client, the files get marked as played and removed from the playlist so this is a problem restricted to the Sonos service from the look of it, which is a real pain for me as I use Sonos playback from plex almost all day every day but it does depend on this dynamic playlist and playcount working correctly.

Here’s a debug log from a freshly restarted server playing a file to sonos. I’ve also re-added the “server-linux” tag (which someone removed) as this is a linux server. No idea why someone removed my tag, and I’m also slightly peeved that this is the sole attention this issue has received while a recent thread on the lack of support had a few moderators and plex employees contributing and trying to help a troll while I’m getting nothing.

If there’s something I’m missing out, rather than just staying silent, if someone could point it out that would be great.

Note that this is a stable configuration, nothing has changed recently, the machine has been running without problems for a while, with the Sonos playback working fine including updating the playcounts and the dynamic playlists, showing up in playback histories and the dashboard, until the 16th/17th of February when suddenly the dynamic playlists, playback history and dashboard stopped paying heed to Sonos playback.

Whoop! I nearly danced for joy when I saw this was now updating my dynamic playlist again! Fantastic, and I hope it keeps working! I’ll test the android client out later but the Sonos client is the one I use all the time so this is just great!

This issue is now back, playback is not being recorded or even recognised when playing back via Sonos and playcounts are not being updated, breaking dynamic playlists. Not sure why this issue keeps reappearing on a regular basis.

Plex on Android does show up in the dashboard and does update playcounts so it seems to be the Sonos service that isn’t doing so.

Server has been rebooted, upgraded to the latest stable Plex Pass version, android version is auto-updating.

Same issue here, on the latest and greatest stable (2902) PMS, but also tried a couple older versions for trouble shooting sake and no luck. I can confirm playback is recognized from IOS but as soon as you cast it to Sonos it looks like nothing is playing, yet it is. Using the IOS Sonos app directly has the same problem, plays but it looks like nothing is playing in the dashboard. Same is true for the Sonos windows client… Clearly a Sonos service issue…

I think due to past patterns of this issue (suddenly resolving despite me not doing anything) that there is some external service issue here although I’m not 100% sure. From the look of it the Sonos playback relies on an external service to pass the speakers the URLs to your own plex server, I’m assuming at the moment that it plays a part in this, when this issue gets fixed it doesn’t seem to coincide with any changes I make at my end.

So how is it now, it’s fixed for me since this morning or so.

Same, for now it’s working.

Broken again for me…

Just updated plex media server to the latest plexpass version as of this morning, still not working, Sonos playback isn’t recognised at all. It’s the only music playback I use and dynamic playlists play a large part in this, so it’s frustrating that in the last few months this has become so unreliable.

I am still working, as of this morning…

This has now returned to working of its own accord.
