It should be possible to sort Collections by something other than title (year is particularly important). For example, James Bond collection, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Disney, Trilogies etc. In general you want to watch and see these in order of release year.
If this is already possible I apologise, but I’ve haven’t worked it out yet.
One thing you can do is change the “Sort Title” for each of these movies to something like “Bond 01”, “Bond 02”, etc. This not only puts them in the correct order, but also groups them together even if their titles don’t follow a regular pattern. For instance, I changed the sort title for “Wrath of the Titans” to “Clash of the Titans 2”, so that they appear together in my movie list.
Also looking for this possibility.
I dont want to rename all movies again to take away the job of Plex.
Would be outstanding if Collections can be sorted by release year!
The following assumes you have created Collection tags for your movies.
In your Movie library in Plex Web, do the following:
- Set the sort order to Release Date ascending (if the little triangle is pointing down, click it again).
- Click on New Filter, then Collections, and select your choice.
At this point, you should be seeing your collection sorted by release date, from oldest to newest.
Let’s say you skipped step one, for whatever reason:
- Click on New Filter, then Collections, and select your choice.
- Click the little back arrow next to filters twice.
- Note that your filter is still in force. Select sort order to Release Date ascending.
okay, that makes sense.
Again not intuitive, so you need to know what you do.

I still think that Collections should not be a filter but an independent selection next to movies,
or in the normal movie view, you just see the collections rather than eg. 23 movies of James Bond.
There are a few threads making that suggestion. Rather than diluting votes across multiple threads, the best thing to do is to add your vote to one thread by clicking ‘Like’ on the first post in the thread. I recommend this one. It’s not the highest vote getter, but it is the best-thought-out suggestion.
