Sorting music by genre

I am a recent user to Plex. I have uploaded hundreds of CD’s of different genre’s, for example, country & western, classical, Christmas music, Jazz, etc. However, I have not figured out how to sort the CD’s by genre’s so that classical, country & western, etc., CD’s are all together on your TV screen. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

I posted the question above about sorting CD’s by genre. If it is possible to sort by genre to classical is all together, etc., is there a way to play all classical CD’s before Plex stops playing them. Right now I can only play one CD at a time and then Plex stops. I then have to manually choose the next CD I want to play. Thanks

I couldn’t say which client you are using, but I create a filter by genre and then do a random play. I’ll typically do this for Christmas music. The random play isn’t necessary, I just like it! If you want to play a specific order of CD’s, consider making a playlist.

Thank you for the quick reply. I did make a playlist of different genre’s and that seems to be working fairly well.

I cannot browse my music by Genre using Apple TV 4. I added all of my music successfully, creating a Premium library that used my iTunes library as the source. In Plex on Apple TV, I can see the correct genre list, but when I try to browse my music by Genre, these are empty. This is true whether I use the embedded genres that I created in iTunes (as desired) or when I enable Gracenote genres. Note that without Gracenote, I do get the correct genres from my ID3 tags; I just cannot browse by them on Apple TV: each list is empty.

The problem appears to be AppleTV related, as I CAN browse by genre if I view my Plex server through my PS4 (which is incredibly slow compared to the performance on AppleTV).

I haven’t found any mentions of a workaround.

Update: with server build Version 1.4.3.3433, the problem has been resolved for me. Genres working now on AppleTV 4. So happy! It’s working exactly like I wanted: view all Artists, then sort by Genre, then drill down through Artists to Albums. Perfect!
