Sound/volume lost after update

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#:1.29.0.1885
I was running “Plex for Windows - General” Version 1.21.0.1410.
after several prompts, I did upgrade to Version 1.29.0.1885,
but now it loses all audio controls in Plex.
The audio plays on the PC (and HTPC), but at very low volume, and the volume controls on the Plex player do not do anything.
The audio off (small speaker icon) does nothing, and similarly the volume control slider, does nothing. I have to control volume from the TV or computer.
Same experience on two Windows 10 systems, one a desktop PC, the other a HTPC with HDMI output to the TV.
Reverting back to Version 1.21.0.1410, everything works fine again.
from some forum posts, I tried some settings/player controls, but to little avail.
I chose Auto select of audio device (also tried “TV”), and HDMI output for the HTPC device - no apparent effect.

Also; when I do settings/player, and change some options, and then click “save Options” at the bottom of the page, the update button just spins forever. If I go to another page and come back, it does seem to have worked.

Having the same issue. Nothing to add, really, you said it all.

Is your plex.ini (C:/Users/youruser/AppData/Local/Plex) set to read only? I remember doing this to fix a stuttering issue some time back. Anyway, I tried turning off the read only setting and that didn’t fix it, but after I deleted the file and reopened Plex, it made me log in again and created a new Plex.ini; after that, I was able to change my audio device and volume again. I set it back to Read Only for good measure and it still works.

There must have been a change to how the plex.ini interacts with Plex for Windows, or perhaps the structure of the file, that made it so the audio and volume were no longer working properly. I would try deleting the plex.ini and see if your issue is resolved. Afterward, if you want, you can set it back to Read Only and everything will work fine. Hopefully it works for you too.

I’d really appreciate a Plex.log for a short app run where you only save audio device changes before exiting the app. The spinner button should spin then stop quickly.

A Plex.log file for a single playback that demonstrates the issue would be extremely appreciated. It’s best the app is restarted, start/stop one playback with low volume, then exit the app before grabbing %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex\Logs\Plex.log.

OK, will try it.

I have to install the newer version (only a rollback had fixed it), and then try these things and get the log.
And the probably roll-back again.
I certainly get it that reports without data are - not worth much!!
