I use plex with ps3 through dlna, and hate having to switch subtitle modes between the types of shows I watch. I have a folder for anime which I like japanese audio and english subtitles, and there really isnt' a way to set it per type of media folder you have. Is there another way to specify this rather than through the app?
I'm looking for this feature as well, any chance of getting it added to the "wish list"

Basically, setting up per section controls for subtitles. Often the anime files are not showing as English but Unknown so Plex isn't picking them up. If I can force subtitles on the Anime section that would make the wife unit happy.

I know its not entirely what you are looking for, but if you are using external subtitles, if you add a .en before the .srt plex will recognize the language tag and know they are English subtitles.
If they are internal subtitles you would have to change the language flag of the subtitle with a program like mkvmerge which will get them to be recognized automatically instead of unknown.

I come in this post because I have a similar but a bit more complex problem. In my case I have more than english srt, I have also french and spanish, I have also japanese anime with subtitles in english, french or spanish. I have also tv shows sometime in VO english with str french or spanish, sometime in spanish and/or french having also str in french and/or spanish, in this case I don't want to have the subtitles activated. All depending in which language I found them.
That why I would like to have the posibility to change by the tv show or anime the paramater language and subtitle and not by episode one by one.

Can't do it. The program only allows for 1 default. I guess you could trick it by picking some odd language as the default then make a copy of the subtitle you want as the default to use the code for that language. Leave the original as it is along with all the others so you can override the default if you'd like.
Im looking exactly for the same feature I want to be able to select a specific language in a specific folder like my “Anime” folder where I have english and japanese but I want it to play japanese as default! or “Spanish” folder where I want to have everything in spanishi as default with english subs!
