Split Apart Option Missing - Am I Missing Something

Hi All,

I’m new to Plex and so far have been loving it. I’ve recently put in the Harry Potter collection and the Plex has merged the two Deathly Hallows movies. I’ve tried the instructions from Merge or Split Apart page: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201018248-Merge-or-Split-Items but the “Split Apart” option isn’t available. I’m using Version 1.3.3.3148. I’ve tried renaming the files but it doesn’t help.

Make sure that the last part of your file names is not part1 and part2 or any of the other possible endings, as laid out in this support article: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200264966-Naming-Stacked-or-Multi-Part-Movies

Otherwise Plex thinks you want the movie files stacked.

There needs to be at least the release year in parentheses after and maybe some extraneous info about resolution or sound format.
These file names won’t get stacked:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010) - 1080p.ext
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) - 1080p.ext
(and they’re according strictly to the Plex file name guides )

You might have to perform the Plex Dance after renaming the files.

Hi Otto,

Thanks for the advice. Looks like they were stacked. I removed ‘Part 1’ from the title and it allowed me to split them.

Is there any way to turn off stacking?

No. Just avoid filenames ending like explained above.
It is easy to do, since you should always include a (year) after the official movie title.

One thing that I found to watch out for is that Track Number can screw it up. I have two videos that followed the structure and naming conventions but would still auto-stack. Turned out the one of them somehow got a 1 (one) in the track number tag and Plex treated it the same as the episode number. Weird.
