I have multi epsiodes on my plex server. The name for the following is as follows:
SpongeBob - s01e01-pt1 - Help Wanted.avi
SpongeBob - s01e01-pt2 - Reef Blower.avi
SpongeBob - s01e01-pt3 - Tea at the Treedome.avi
And when i go to the menu for season 1 it shows episode 1 having 3 media files connected to it which is exactly what i want but then i try to play it on my windows 7 desktop (not the same machine as the server) and it only plays the pt3 episode :/. any ideas on why its behaving this way?
awesome how no one has the same problem lol. sounds like i am the only one having this issue. I also noticed something very strange, When i went onto my android phone and played that same episode it played the 2nd stacked epsiode but none others, so it seems like its stacking properly just not trans coding properly?
It works for me. Are you using the folder structure in your link ? Or just have them in the root "tv show" folder ?
"When i go to the menu for season 1 it shows episode 1 having 3 media files connected to it"
Is this at the episode level or season level ? If at the episode level it means it is seeing them as multiple versions of the same episode versus multi- parts of an episode
You can look a the info of each episode by hovering your mouse over the episode , clicking on the .. and selecting info.
This will show you how the scanner interprets the files.
Yep to which? are you using the folder structure or are they in the root directory? Also try moving them out rescan then move back in and scan one more time.
when you are adding "parts" it should be at the end of the file name ( I know the examples in the guide don't have episode names) but they need to be named exactly the same other wise
SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e01-pt1.avi
SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e01-pt2.avi
SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e01-pt3.avi
or
SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e01 - Help Wanted - Reef Blower - Tea at the Treedome - pt1.avi
SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e01 - Help Wanted - Reef Blower - Tea at the Treedome - pt2.avi
SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e01 - Help Wanted - Reef Blower - Tea at the Treedome - pt3.avi

SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e03 - Tea at the Treedome.avi
OMG this helped me sooooo much! Your suggestion fixed it! Thank you thank you! So heres what happened.
Your first suggestion was the correct fix. However when you said or "SpongeBob Squarepants - s01e01 - Help Wanted - Reef Blower - Tea at the Treedome - pt1.avi" this did not work for me. plex still wouldnt stack it properly.
Problem solved :) i guess i just cant have the epsiode names in there, which doesnt matter cause plex takes care of that anyways :).
Ah ha! Wow, I could never get this to work before… The Plex help page for naming/stacking multi-part TV episodes should better clarify that the trick is to “remove the name/title of the episode from the file name; only include the part number after the episode number, nothing else”… That indeed does the trick…
Although I’m surprised Plex still hasn’t just programmed around this yet… Seems like the scanning logic should just be able to look for the “S00E00 - ptX” format to get the episode stacking info, then ignore the episode title text after that. Oh well. At least there’s a workaround of sorts (removing the episode title from the file name).
