Start System Scan for Intro and Credits

Most of my media is not scanning for intros and credits, how do I manually kick start it?
I have a new PC so need to stress the CPU out again!!

Extend the time period for the server maintenance time window. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201553286-scheduled-tasks/
Verify that the analysis tasks are enabled in the global server settings.

I recommend you to enable these analysis tasks one by one, starting with the least expensive one. Then give the server a few days to actually finish each task (depends of course on the amount of media in your collection).

  1. loudness analysis for music
  2. video preview thumbnails
  3. intro detection for tv show episodes
  4. sonic analysis for music
  5. credits detection for movies and episodes

Preview Thumbnails and Credits Detection have also a switch per library, so check these as well.

If you have a lot of video in older formats, like MOV, AVI, xvid etc. then you might want to disable the hidden server preference GenerateBIFKeyframesOnly
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/
Though this will prolong the time it takes to generate the preview thumbnails, it has a higher chance to actually succeed while doing so. Older video formats are frequently bad at seeking, and the transcoder might fail at skipping to the next key frame.

Ensure that there is plenty of free space in both your general /temp folder as well as on the volume which holds the Plex data folder.
Both are going to be used heavily during the analysis.

Sorry, this makes no sense to me!! not worded correctly

Locating the Advanced, Hidden Settings

Windows

On Windows, the preferences are available in the registry. To access settings related to Plex Media Server:

  1. Open the “regedit” application
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Plex, Inc./Plex Media Server
  3. Create a new entry named as per the options below and add the correct value, or else edit an existing value

When creating the registry entry, be sure to choose the correct type:

  • String, path, or other text: String Value
  • Integer or boolean: DWORD (32-bit) Value

What exactly about it? A full quote of the article doesn’t tell what you are confused about.

After adding a DWORD (32-bit) Value, what do I name it and with what value ?

I explicitly named it above: GenerateBIFKeyframesOnly.

The valid names and values are listed in the lower part of the article: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/
It says there that GenerateBIFKeyframesOnly can have the values of either 1 or 0.
With 0 meaning it’s disabled.

Ok thanks, I now understand.
If I was to remove the TV Show folder from Plex, reboot the computer and add it again, will that initiate the Intro and Credit scan again?

If you throw in an “Optimize Database” and “Clean Bundles” before re-adding, yes.

That is time consuming, anyway, I am starting to watch another TV Show with 7 Seasons and none of them have Skip intro or credits.
But I can go into each season folder and select Analyze and does the Intros and credits
Is there a way I can do this at the TV Show level? trying but nothing happens…

This works only at the episode level.
You can however use multi-selection and so trigger analyze on all episodes of a season at once.

OK thanks, also all the episodes summary was missing, just done a Plex Dance and now going through it’s scanning again.
Since doing a clean install of my computer last month, it’s going to take some time to catch up with my massive 500 or so episode titles.
I noticed around 3am this morning it was doing scans for intro’s and credit’s on TV Shows
Poor CPU!!
