Startup Failure on PS3

This is a bit of a rare issue and hopefully one which is simple to solve, but may not be that easy to replicate (let me explain).

 

I have this week had to update my PS3 with a new software update from Sony. I am sure everyone has. When an update is available the PS3 cannot automatically log in to the PSN. This does not bother me - I rarely play games and the only functions I use on the PS3 are the Plex app and occasionally the media streaming from my plex server with DLNA (due to playback issues through the plex app - in many other threads!).

 

When the update was available I did not immediately notice and did what I normally do - load Plex. During the load the app went into an unbreakable loop..

  1. app loads and tries to connect to PSN
  2. PSN login appears and fails due to out of date software
  3. login returns to app
  4. app load fails and restarts load process
  5. return to 1

During this loop I was unable to use the normal "Press PS button and chose quit" option to close Plex so had to force close the app (something I did not know was possible until I had this problem).

 

Could be solved really easily with a counter for failed starts and an app quit after too many (perhaps with a user error message to explain).

 

Not sure if anyone else also had this issue?

Was a while ago this was reported, and just thought it may be worth mentioning - the issue is still present. Sony have just released another update for the PS3 system, and as a result until you update cannot log in to PSN. This sends plex into a loop on loading.

Apparently this is out of Plex Inc.'s control. But the team will try and reach out to Sony about this.

Try holding the button down for a few seconds like you’re going to turn the device off. You’ll get a quit, turn off system, turn off controller dialog.
