Static IP

Thinking of changing from cable to fiber optics. My question is Does Plex server need a static IP?

Fiber optic gives me choice. $10 extra for static IP

Any thought?
Thanks in advance

While it’s true it is suggested that your PLEX server should have a static IP address, it doesn’t mean your PLEX server needs a static IP address provided by your internet provider…

Setting a static IP address on your PLEX server for your local network allows your router/gateway to always be able to forward the needed port to right server or device… If you were to use DHCP or dynamic addresses eventually your server could be assigned a different IP address and break your port forwarded rules you set on your router/gateway…

Static IP addresses assigned by your internet provider just means your IP address on the internet side of your router/gateway is always the same…

IMHO, unless you really need a static IP for something; have your own registered domain name, running your own web server, mail server, or the like, save your ten dollars a month…

That!!
Plex Server should only have it’s static/reserved IP address within your home network. With remote access enabled, Plex will take care of telling your client the current (public) IP of your server.

To All, Thank you for response. Off to final cord cutting
