Stepping back steps forward

I’ve been experiencing a very annoying issue where sometimes stepping back (left-click / ie replay) in fact steps forward instead of back. If I try again, steps further forward. Continues doing that each time I try to step back. Forward/back both step forward, pause/play do indeed pause/play but don’t fix the stepping issue. Once I exit the video and restart playback, that usually fixes it. If it happens again by chance, then again the problem persists until exiting the video and reopening.

Any ideas?
