Still struggling

after moving subnets on my networks I don’t seem to be able to get plex working again.

so I thought id do a fresh install. uninstalled, moved libraries, created new library with just one film in. installed plex still the same issue (cannot open library). deleted library, re-added library, and then it started to scan, left it for two hours but it was still scanning.

then I began to think how does the plex server on my Synology know which account to use. I know I was logged in on my browser, but if I need to do a fresh install then I need to use a new login. how do I tell plex server which user to use?

If you actually did a clean new install, Plex should have brought up a setup dialog on the next start. As part of that you’ll be asked to claim your server, which will link it to your account.

If you only uninstalled/re-installed the app, the underlying configuration should have remained in place.

All that being said… if your issues were causes by a change to your network, I would start by going through the network configuration. Could it be your router still has a stale IP reservation or port forward pointing to the old subnet?

It was a change of router.
The old ip range was 192.168.2.x
The new one is 192.168.1.x

There is no port forwarding on the new router (Vodafone), quite certain there wasn’t on the old (standard BT).

How do I do I full fresh install rather than just uninstall/reinstall?

Well… something about this network change seems to have caused your issue.
So not sure if simply starting a new server will fix that.

or more specific to Synology installs

yes, I think it may be network related, as my server isn’t resolving by name only IP address, I think plex knows it by name.

thanks for your help, and pushing me in the right direction. I couldn’t resolve the server name. I had given the NAS a static IP address and was resolving through that, but plex didn’t like that.

as soon as I set it to DHCP it worked. now I just need to find my MAC address and I can give it a static IP through the routers DHCP.

Synology DSM → Control Panel → Info Center → Network

thanks for the info. I was surprised it wasn’t in control panel > network.
but sorted now as I got it from my router, but thanks for the info.
