Synology DS1621+ and full reinstalation of Plex = I can't see my media server

Server Version#: DSM 7.1-42661 Update 4
Player Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.28.2.6151-914ddd2b3-x86_64_DSM7.spk

Hello team! I was forced to reinstall Plex, did it for the first time in many years. At the time of deletion, I selected the option to delete all settings.

After I installed Plex again. At the time of installation, I chose the Claim option, generated a key and successfully installed Plex.

At the moment, the problem is that I don’t see my media server in my account and Plex recommends that I install it… which is strange, since it is already installed on Synology.

I’ve done this many times, with complete deletion of settings, reboots, incognito mode, and so on.

In mobile app I see my server but it marked as OFFLINE

I ask for help pls. The account is premium, but I don’t think it matters.

  1. Uninstall the package – KEEP option

  2. Install the same SPK you downloaded from Plex.
Do not use 1.21.0-3744 from Synology Package Center (incompatible with released DSM 7)

  3. Use Plex Claim Token Method

  4. Click Get Plex Claim Token link

  5. COPY token

  6. PASTE back into window on installer form

  7. NEXT → DONE

  8. Allow to install.

  9. CONFIRM: Your Plex username is shown in the ‘Claimed by:’ at end of installation.

  10. Open the server by its LAN IP this one time only so Plex/web and server can sync.

  1. Open the server by its LAN IP this one time only so Plex/web and server can sync.

I did so. Step by step. When I enter a local address, it asks me to log in, I enter the plex account details and still can’t see my local media server.

When I enter my local NAS address I see this:

Are you and the server on the same subnet?

As per the FAQ, did you?

  1. close browser
  2. Open new browser
  3. Open incognito to the syno by IP address ?
  4. It will want you to sign in.
  5. It will want basic plex/web setup (doesn’t matter because it will be forgotten)

(this is annoying because there’s already a server entry at plex.tv which has the same ID)

my friend, I don’t want to annoy you, but of course I tried all this before I wrote. I haven’t been able to solve this issue for more than 4 hours, which I just haven’t tried. The anonymous tab also forces me to log in to the plex account first.

May I ask the basics -

Are you and the machine on the same RFC-1918 compliant subnet ?

The anonymous tab will require sign in.
That’s the point.

It will trigger claiming – without being encumbered by the old ID numbers.

Sure, one subnet.
Yes, in anonymous tab I’m enter my login and password + 2FA code
after I see the portal, but I don’t see my server.

I even tried to do it on another laptop, where I had never opened Plex before, the result is the same.

time to manually grab logs. Something stupid is wrong.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. FileStation - PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  3. Right-click LogsCompress to Logs.zip
  4. Download that zip

Attach here.

Thanks for your time and support.

Pls check attachment.

Logs.zip (127.9 KB)

Thanks.

I found it. Your machine is unable to get and save the certificate.

Sep 13, 2022 23:29:32.051 [0x7fca77fecb00] ERROR - [CERT/OCSP] Error opening file '"/var/packages/PlexMediaServer/shares/PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Cache/OCSP/main.der"' - No such file or directory (2)

I can see where you’ve deleted the server several times and tried to recreate it.
Each time created a duplicate at plex.tv

That will confuse the HECK out of the browser.

I am clearing it up for you.

While I do this, please do the following:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Delete Plex Media Server (which is underneath PlexMediaServer/AppData
  3. wait for me to clean up here.

When I clean up here,

  1. Sign out of Plex/web (upper right)
  2. Close and reopen all browsers fresh (no dangling tokens/cookies)
  3. Now open by IP address
  4. It will want to sign in, with silly warning, Sign In
  5. It won’t go looking for your other server of the same name.

I’ve cleaned up your account.

You can sign out of Plex/web and/or the forums,
Close and reopen the browser

Open the Syno by IP address

done from my side.

By the way: I just tried to install Plex Server on an old Mac, everything went without problems. Installation, authorization, basic setup, everything is fine. But after 2-5 min server is lost from my account… I don’t know can this help for us.

I will try but let’s do the Syno first ?

same :(((((

My steps:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Delete Plex Media Server (which is underneath PlexMediaServer/AppData
  3. wait for you to clean up
  4. confirm from you side
  5. start PMS
  6. Close Safari (I did everything in it)
  7. Open Safari and incognito tab
  8. Enter local address
  9. Enter login+pass+2FA

Same :frowning: wizard for new server not started.

I do not know how 2FA works with this.

I suspect you’re not getting through the 2FA. I did not see any activity in your logs.

what do you mean? When I log in, plex.tv asked every time for a login + password + and a temporary code of 6 digits, which changes every 30 seconds. (2FA or OTP)

I found your problem.

I missed it.

The Syno is NOT on an RFC-1918 compliant subnet.

Plex Claim Token is your only hope but with 2FA I cannot guaranteee.

Need to change local network subnet? 192.168.X.X right?

Your choice is 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or the range 172.16.x.x → 172.31.x.x

got it, let me check
