Stops playing after a couple of mins of playing

the “primary” plex player is the windows box as has more cpu power for transcoding, it the one i have always used and is the one i have been using all the time
the synology one is a back up plex server in case when i am away the esx crashes, it never gets used but is there is case it does
In both cases if i play from the main plex on the windows box or the synology(all the logs i have sent are from the windows box) it stops(this has only started happening in the last 2 weeks prior to that i have had years of it running perfectly

19:06 it stopped
waited one min for logs
Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-03_19-08-20.zip (7.2 MB)

there is 4 nics on the synolgy and 2 of them with no gateways, the other 2 are bonded(have always been bonded(as a single link in case of nic failure)
but i have removed the bond now so just 4 nics
and only 1 with gateway and the only one which is used for feeding video and access ot the internet
playing another video now
have also set the plex in synology to only use the 100 address used for the synology
(this does not remedy the windows box though)

ok did not take 2 long to stop playing on the synology
20:11
and here is the logs

If I may augment ?

If one is the “default gateway”, bonded or not, DSM will favor it. It will not, however, use it exclusively. This is because DSM’s internal routing mechanism is design for HA (High Availability). If you were to inspect packet headers, you can actually see where different MAC addresses are used all purportedly coming from the same IP.

In this case, with multiple ethernet adapters active on the same subnet, presenting multiple IP addresses on that subnet (which your logs show)

a. The other adapter(s) serve no useful purpose. There is no bandwidth performance gain.
b. Multiple adapters on the same subnet confuses the heck of out PMS. This is why adapter selection was implemented.

The confusion is caused because PMS is expecting the client reply on a specific IP when the reply is, thanks to Synology’s HA structure, received on another host IP. PMS doesn’t didn’t get a reply on the IP it sent from and communication breaks (stalls). After X seconds, connections time out and drop. The result is playback failure

As test of this, whether you opt to use bonding or not:

Settings - Server - Network - Show Advanced

  1. Have PMS listen on the primary adapter (ethernet) address you defined for the Synology (typically eth0).
  2. Either unplug or manually move the inactive/unused adapter IP addresses to a different subnet block
  3. Restart PMS.
  4. Test

Did you just install Docker and enable Open VirtualSwitch ?

so the other nics are used for some NFS transport that is moving around on 2 of the other nics
the other one is a spare,
in plex i have set the ip address so plex can only use that nic now
i will disable all the other nics in Synology and try again

We will await your reply regarding Docker and OVS before replying next

the docker is installed but there is no docker images running for over 6 months

Kindly remove docker and disable OVS.

We cannot debug a changing configuration

have removed it and will retest
but since this has been enabled for over a year with some containers running, but none in the last 6 months this only started happening 2 weeks ago

At the same time DSM 6.2 Update 2 came out. Yes, I am aware of this

All i’m trying to do at this point is make one determination: Server? Network? Player?

i only updated to update 2 after this started to happen
and in real terms my primary plex server is a windows box(server 2016) with mapped drive to the synology, via ip address
which is doing exactly the same thing
but i know the smb is working perfectly fine as emby using the same network
and this setup has been running perfectly fine for years

it stopped again on another video just gone 9 Plex Media Server Logs_2018-08-03_21-06-16.zip (6.8 MB)

Will try down grading Plex on sheild but this happens in the Amazon tv as well, have replaced the switch and this happens in both access point so pretty sure not the network

If I down grade the sheild the live TV will not work then ?

Well that sucked sheild back to original
And will not even play a movie starts then crashes out and restarts
Installed updates again and starts playing again
But stops playing again after a couple of mins

everyone else lost for ideas?

so changed the switch, changed the nic on the server, changed the cables, changed the access point for a new one, th eonly thing i have not done is changed the entire synology
but since this has ran fine for 2 years pretty sure is not the above an one got any final ideas before i leave emby switched on(which works fine) and turn off plex as cannot watch a movie ?

So just been using ping plotter to trace my network and can confirm in over 20 mins(and still running)
2 spikes at 120 MS
average 3.2 MS
NO Packets loss at all, confirming my network is running fine
