Strange matching on only 1 TV show

Server Version#:1.18.2.2058 (on Win10 Pro)

Today I added 4 of the new Star Trek: Discovery short takes.

Star.Trek.Discovery.S00E07, S00E08 and S00E09 and S00E10

And while Plex correctly matched them as specials for Star Trek Discovery, the episode names and descriptions don’t match in any way what’s at thetvdb.org.

Example: S00E07 shows a title of “Discovering Discovery: The Concepts and Casting of Star Trek: Discovery”. Thetvdb.org says it should be " Short Treks: The Trouble with Edward"

I see that “Edward” title on S00E10 instead of S00E07.

The other Short Treks I added from last year - S00E02 through E04 - they all match perfectly.

Any idea what’s up? I really don’t want to change the agent for the entire library, but it doesn’t seem to finding the correct titles for these. And I can’t see where in the world it is finding them, as my default agent is thetvdb.org.

In the list of agents for shows, I have both thetvdb.oprg checked, and listed first under it’s own heading. It’s also enabled under themoviedb.org.

Any ideas why the match is so off just for this show? and how to fix it? I tried fixing the match, I removed the episodes, scanned again, verified the order of agents. Nothing helped. It’s not an overwhelming problem, but it is aggravating.

Thanks

MP4 Files?

If so, do this to Local Media Assets under all tabs in Shows and Movies (Settings/Agents):

Red: Where it was
Green Where it goes (drag and drop)
Refresh Metadata afterwards - or Plex Dance for stubborn behavior that won’t self correct:

With Local Media Assets in Priority (at the top) embedded and bogus Titles within MP4/M4V files are ‘Preferred’, even over a good and proper file name… unfortunately.

If you’re not using MP4/M4V files - that’s odd, and also beyond me… 'cause this is working fine here at my house:

No, these are MKV files. I will try that trick, though …

Nope. I moved the tvdb entry below the “The movie Database” under the TVDB tab under Shows, and moved TVDB above “The Movie Database” under the “The Movie Database” tab. And refreshed the metadata for this series. No difference …

Plex doesn’t read, or react badly to embedded Titles in MKV files - only MP4/M4V.

I would Plex Dance the specials season (at least, first, then the whole show if that fails). Renaming and fiddling while in the library often throws Plex into a tailspin - only a Plex Dance will fix. Do check your file names again for accuracy - before The Dance.

Well, that Plex Dance seems to be for the order of all the agents, I don’t see how that affects only one show. I did try moving the agent order around, and rescan and refresh. Nothing changed …

Going to try moving the files away completely, recsan, empty trash, move files back, rescan, refresh all metadata, see what happens … that will take a while … I will report back later.

Thanks for all the help so far!

That did it! I removed the files; re-scanned (so they disappeared from the library), emptied trash, cleaned bundles, rescanned, refreshed metadata … and now they show up properly.

So I am good to go! Thanks.

Sometimes, particularly if you fiddle around with files while Plex is watching, a bundle gets messed up. Best way to deal with bundle mess-ups is to write a new one (with all the right stuff in it).

The Plex Dance was born (a long time ago in a galaxy very near you).

Full disclosure: I too fiddle around with files all the time while Plex is watching. I am well versed in Plex Dance use as a result on occasion. If something starts acting strange - Dance.
