Stuck on “get you plex”screen

Hi all hope this is in the right category…
I have had plex on my pc for a few years but not used it recently due to internet problems at my previous property. Now I’ve got fibre I thought it would be about time to use it again… i am running updated windows 7 with chrome as the browser. My media is located on an external hard drive connected to my pc. i updated plex and the problem began, I am now stuck on the above screen. I am logged in and can see my account settings, but I have no server options and have the “looking for servers” text with the spiny circle in the top left of the browser window. On the main screen I have the option to “set up plex cloud” or “download plex media server” it has been downloaded and installed, I have no idea how to get off this screen. My pc and tv are linked the internet/network thru and internet plug. My tv has no problem running Netflix etc thru this connection, my tv can “see” my pc thru the media option in the menu and can also see “plex media server:flossy” within this menu, I can run files from this option that have never been synced with plex, so I don’t think it is a firewall or similar problem. I have a Sony tv so have the plex app in the opera app I have linked this to my account but can not access the server, I also have plex on my iPad that again can see the server but not access any content. I am at a loss as to how to get past this screen on my pc and onto the main plex app. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

  1. Did you perform the first-run setup wizard steps? (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web)
  2. Do you have a firewall blocking the Plex ports? https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201543147-What-network-ports-do-I-need-to-allow-through-my-firewall-

I set plex up oringinally 3years ago so set up was done then also there was no option to do that when I updated. I’ve tried a reinstall with everything turned off (firewall anti-virus and vpn). I just can’t get past that screen. I have no server options, and there is no wizard. Have checked all ports on my firewall and router and all seems to be in order. I’ve tried http://127.0.0.1:32400/web and it just takes me back to the “download your plex server” screen. Has confused me no end, am actually contemplating doing a full HD format and windows reinstall lol

I’m not a windows guy but thought I might be able to help you.

Clearly we need a bigger gun.

Hey @OttoKerner You available?

There may be your old plex credentials (back when you used Plex the first time) still stuck in the Windows registry.
You need to reset all of them (or find out which plex username and password you used back then).

I’d say uninstall Plex server for now.
Then perform the additional steps described in here to get rid of the old account information in the registry:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201941078-Uninstall-Plex-Media-Server

It’s the same account. All I did was run the update because I hadn’t used the program for a long while. The only difference is that I’ve moved house. But I’ve checked my hub and the correct ports are enabled and I can see and use the server from my tv media menu. I just cant get past this screen on my pc I keep going round in circles and end up back on that screen. “Download your plex server” I’ve done it so many times…

What happens if you load this website: http://plex.tv/web ?
