I keep getting notified that PMS version 1.16.3.1402 is available. When I try to download it & install, it seems to download the update, and I then click the Install Update button as expected. I get the prompt to make sure I have desktop access to the machine (I do - I’m on it), and then the “Grab a cup of tea” screen while it supposedly updates. After a few seconds, I’m dumped back to my settings screen where the version hasn’t changed and it prompts me to download the update again. Rinse and repeat…
I get no errors or prompts indicating that anything is installing. I tried the MS Fix-it troubleshooter referenced in the FAQ, but all it wants to do is uninstall PMS, which I’d really prefer not to do. Do I have any other option here? I have local Admin access to the machine, and I’m not having any other issues installing Windows Updates or other software.
Thank you - I can definitely try that, but I happened to be checking some other threads, and learned that the Installer Logs are kept in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs\Installer Logs. I looked there, and saw log files from my previous update attempts. I just tried today to install 1.16.4.1469, and saw these errors in the log file:
[4360:2870][2019-08-18T21:49:13]e000: Error 0x80070008: Failed to create window.
[4360:3A4C][2019-08-18T21:49:13]i000: Setting string variable 'WixBundleName' to value 'Plex Media Server'
[4360:3A4C][2019-08-18T21:49:13]i000: Setting string variable 'WixBundleManufacturer' to value 'Plex, Inc.'
[4360:22D4][2019-08-18T21:49:13]e000: Error 0x80070008: Failed to initialize COM.
[4360:3A4C][2019-08-18T21:49:13]i500: Shutting down, exit code: 0x8
The update package itself downloads fine, and I’m seeing this same Error 0x80070008 in a bunch of previous update attempts going back to early this year.
I’d like to get the update procedure fixed if I can - does this info shed any light on the issue?
