I have Plex Media Server (running on a Mac mini and via Apple TV) with all libraries set up nicely. Today I then went and subscribed to a Plex Pass for the first time, accidentally with a different email address than the account on my Plex Media Server.
Now I’m a bit confused as to how best bring those two things together. If I sign into my Plex Media Server with the account I used to subscribed to Plex Pass I can’t seem to add a source for my libraries.
What should I do?
You need to change the plex account of your server.
However, this also means that you also need to
- change the plex account in every single Plex client of yours
- re-invite all shared users
- all managed users in your Plex Home (if there are any) will be lost
If you want to go a head with this, you have two options:
1
- open an incognito/private browser tab and log in to your OLD plex account.
- go to Settings - Server - General and sign out your server from its current plex account
- close the web browser window/tab
- reopen the web browser and make sure it is signed into your NEW Plex account
- after a few minutes you will be notified about an “unclaimed” server in your local network. Claim it.
- sign out in every other Plex client and in to the new account
2
- perform this procedure https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/
- sign out in every other Plex client and in to the new account
Now if I go and delete my old Plex Server account, I can presumably then go and change my new Plex Pass account email address to the one I want to use?
You can do that.
However:
- again, use an incognito/private web browser to do this and thus making sure that you are deleting the right account
- After deleting a Plex account, you must wait 1 month before you can re-use the email address which was connected to the deleted account
