Subtitle colour dependability

What steps do I need to take to ensure my subtitles render in yellow every time I watch a movie? I have done everything I can think of and everything I can find recommended online and now I think I’m worse off than when I started.

Can someone please clearly explain or walk me through just what I have to do to make this a consistent and reliable feature? I beg of you. I know we all have our idiosyncrasies, and mine is yellow subtitles. It’s starting to bum me out. So…what filetype, what settings where, all of it. Just tell me what to do I know it’s built in there.

If someone, anyone, wouldn’t mind just jumping in here for 30 seconds to leave me a message telling me that “it won’t work”, or “it’s a problem but low priority”, or anything to just help me stop looking for fixes if there really isn’t one. I’m not the most technical but I can figure stuff out if I have to - if it HAS to be external .srts in the same folder, or if they have to be muxed in, or if they have to be adjusted in a third party software or WHATEVER, I would truly appreciate it.

Help out your fellow man.

I haven’t tried it to see if it actually works, but I did find the setting for it - see screenshot below:

You cannot change the color of PGS or VOBSUB subtitles.

It does work for external SRT subtitles. I’ve never tried it with embedded SRT subtitles or SSA/ASS subtitles (embedded or external).

The setting is per device. You’ll have to configure it in the settings for each Plex app

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, Panthercules. I know that setting and have it set to YELLOW, but it does not work reliably. In fact, it rarely seems to work. I’m beginning to suspect that the problem is on my TV set [LGC1 OLED] where I watch PLEX and not the application itself. Again, thank you for the feedback.

FordGuy61, thank you as well for the information. I learned that along the way as well. It’s unclear to me if the subtitles should be muxed in, or held in the same folder but as their own file, but it doesn’t even matter. On the TV I can have all the settings seem “correct” but the subtitles still appear white even if I “search for other subtitles”. Once in a while I’ll find one that will display as yellow but it’s a total crapshoot and I wish I had an explanation as to why because I would LOVE to fix it.

Interesting - I found the settings I showed above in the web browser version, but when I saw your message I went to check my Roku TV and I could not find any color-related setting on it. Seems like a pretty simple concept, but obviously it didn’t work out that way in practice.

I do not know if it available on Roku.

On Android mobile, which also has the New Experience interface, it is Settings → Subtitles.

AFAIR, most accessibility settings (and that includes subtitles) are defined centrally on Roku – i.e. in the device’s settings menu and not in the settings of the Plex app.
