Subtitle Offset has disappeared on nVidia Shield

Server Version#: 1.32.6.7557
Player Version#: 10.0.0.4149

I don’t know exactly when this started happening but I no longer have access to the Subtitle Offset setting in the menu on my Shield. This occurs with subtitles that are part of the container, external subtitles that I manually put in the directory with the media, and subtitles that I download from the subtitles menu within the Plex client. These would all be SRT for the most part.

This is making it impossible to watch certain shows where there are only mis-timed subtitles available, without having to go in and manually retime all of them.

My best guess is something broke in the v10 release but who knows.

There is a known issue when enabling or switching subtitles during playback the menu is not made present.

We only allow adjusting offset for external subs and using the downloading feature, however, if using download you would currently need to stop playback and start again with it selected before starting playback until that issue is fixed.

The offset menu is located under playback settings below Subtitle and above Subtitle Styling. I am currently looking at the setting are you not seeing it?

Yes, that is what makes it odd. I start playback with either an external SRT subtitle or downloaded one selected and I consistently see only Subtitle and Subtitle Styling in the playback settings. No Offset menu is ever present.

I’ve just inspected the dashboard while playing an offending file and I’ve noticed that it’s inexplicably transcoding video (1080p H264 High 4:4:4 Predictive to 1080p H264) and audio (AC3 to Opus) when I’m pretty sure this should be Direct Play-able.

Maybe related?

Yes if playback is transcoding the client is unable to change the offset of the subtitle. It only works for direct playback. I am unsure why it is transcoding though. If you are able to provide a sample file I can give it a test.

After further research it would seem that the Hi444PP profile that this media is encoded in is almost certainly not playable on Android platforms so it would seem that that is my problem.

Thank you for the assistance though!
