Subtitle problem on Android TV (Sony)

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#:9.9.0.35519

I have a Sony Oled TV running Android TV and when I launch a file with subtitles in SRT format it does not work.
If I look on my pc I can see the Plex Android file reader, I can see that it says read subtitles
I’ve had this TV for 3 years and I’ve never had this problem, it’s after an update
If I run the file on a pc the file works with the subtitles

Try upgrading to 1.29.1.xxxx because there were massive changes to the encoder in the recent betas. Let us know how it works, but for the love of all things holy give it an hour to migrate the db on a large library before testing. I’m not sure exactly how long is necessary, but safe rather than sorry :+1:

I installed version 1.29.1.6260 at 2am.
I tested at 10 a.m. the problem is still there

Thanks for the update. What symptoms do you see on the TV more specific than “it does not work?”

The Plex people almost always would like to see your

Smart TV Log

It helps a lot to

  • enable debug logging
  • restart PMS & wait a couple minutes
  • demonstrate the playback for a minute, then stop.
  • Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs in the hosted web app.
  • zip and drop things in your reply.

A couple of things that cause problems are 3 dozen sub tracks, or external SRTs not in UTF-8.
You can mux down to 1 subtitle track and see if that helps.

@VTron21

I understood where the problem comes from when there are 2 versions of the film, one in 4K and the other in HD, it does not launch the subtitles, but if at the beginning I tell it to launch the 4K version (read the version …) the subtitles work.
It’s a bug

Ok do we have:

  • both versions of the film have embedded UTF8 SRT streams as the first subtitle track?
  • both versions have one video and one audio track?

If not please describe the track layouts for each version or just zip the xml info for the film and drop it into your reply.

Thanks

Yes the 2 versions have subtitles in SRT format
I even have a 2 file one has subtitles in SRT format and the other PGS.
And it is by choosing the format that the subtitles work
When I play a movie that is not duplicated (4K or HD) I have no problem with subtitles
I think the problem comes from the update which allowed to choose several versions of a normal film or director’s cut

I’m sorry to be mean for free but it’s not like the Plex team is very reactive on bugs.
We waited 6 months for it to solve the download bug on IOS and Android
