Subtitle support on Plex App Xbox One

Now that XBox’s media player supports subtitles, can Plex on the xbox one start supporting it as well ?

https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/251646-apps/suggestions/6345301-support-subtitles-in-xbox-one-media-player

It’s going to depend on a couple of things. The most important being if Microsoft releases those codecs to 3rd party developers. In the past Microsoft releases some containers and codecs only to their apps and later made them available for apps like Plex.

Soft subtitles are a feature the developers are actively looking at including. But the next update was submitted a few weeks ago and likely before the news of subtitles being enabled for media player. So if we do see it soon, it will most likely not be until the version after the next update.

I don’t think this is true. Subtitles are not supported… the idea was wrongly closed.

If you go here: Xbox Support

It is written:

Does Media Player support the use of subtitles in movies?

Unfortunately, Media Player does not currently support the use of subtitles in movies.

And anyway, we also want Microsoft to bring subtitle support for third-party apps like Plex!

So if the update was submitted roughly three months ago what’s the delay? Not sure I buy the story that this app is receiving support anymore

You need to look at the date of the post you are referencing (May, 12 2016). There was indeed an update to the app in June 2016 and again in October of 2016.
