Subtitled files conflicting with VPN

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685
Player Version#: 4.145.1

My Plex was working great with my VPN up until the last couple of days, but for some reason the VPN now seems to be interfering with playback on my local network. As it stands, the situation is: When VPN is off, all files can be played, both via remote access and local network. With VPN on, files that require subtitles will hang on both my computers (Win10, Mac), and Roku, but not mobile. Files without subtitles will play just fine. Remote access can play all files just fine.

I’m using ExpressVPN and have the Plex server set for split tunneling. I’ve tried changing my local ethernet settings to public instead of private, but that blocked ALL playback on my local network, not just the subtitled files. I tried reinstalling the server. I haven’t tried an older version of Plex yet. I’ve tried changing VPN protocol, to no effect.

Not sure what to try next. It seems like somehow the VPN is interfering with conversation on the local network but I am not very tech savvy and have no idea how to locate the issue or what to try next. Naturally I would like to keep my VPN, but I do want to be able to watch my media as well! Any help appreciated.

Okay, I’d like to add some further information–I turned off split tunneling with my VPN, and now all files work locally again, even with the VPN on. So it is something with the split tunneling that’s causing the issue. Of course, with split tunneling off and the VPN on, remote access is now not working, instead.

Still looking for help with this–thanks!

Is there any way to talk to Plex support outside of these forums? I need help. :frowning:
