Subtitles - again. How to upload? Upload is missing for me

Server Version#: Current
Player Version#: n/a

I have TV-show in MKV with three different subtitles in the actual file but they are in languages I have no use for. I also have the Sub Zero-plugin. Either the built in subtitle support or Sub Zero has downloaded a subtitle file in the correct language and stored it next to the MKV using the right name.

But as in many other threads in this forum, Plex doesn’t pick up these subtitles, only offering me the languages already included in the MKV. However, I have seen multiple references to another option - upload an external subtitle file.

As far as I understand it, there should be an upload option in the “episode overview”-view but when I click in the subtitle selector, this is all I see:

I have seen several screenshots of this menu in this fora with an upload-option.

1 Why is upload missing for me? What to do about it?

Furthermore, I have seen several threads about problems with permissions. I don’t understand that. If Plex can read the media file, why shouldn’t it be able to read the subtitle file in the same directory? Or course, it is possible to mess up the permissions in a way that prevents that but then you really need to make an effort, don’t you?

2 I have also tried to delete Czech subtitles but it just returns an error message. What is weird with them is that when I stream from Plex to VLC on my Apple TV, there is only one Czech option, not two as Plex is showing. Any ideas why they can’t be deleted and/or why VLC and Plex list different number of Czech subtitles?
