Using PlexWeb from Crome and same issue.
If I stop the playback and resume, the subtitles will display again.
Direct play with external srt subtitles. Transcoding disabled.

Im having the same issues, casting from Android device to Chromecast Ultra.
I guess we are barking at the wrong tree here.

literally made an account just to report that yes, this is still happening.
My usual setup is:
Plex server on Ubuntu 20.04.3, latest plex version 1.25.8.5663.
Most of the time, I’ll be watching on a wired connection, via chrome, on a Win10 pc.
Usually subtitles will cut out around halfway to two-thirds through a film. Pausing/unpausing will sometimes restore them, sometimes not. Incredibly irritating, seems to happen no matter what settings I have on the plex.

Access to Settings in Plex app > Web > Player > tap Burn Subtitles > change the default “Automatic” to “Always”. This enables subtitles auto transcoding feature within Plex Media Server.. .
