im running plex server 1.13.9.5456 for a few years and recently ( few months ) all downloaded
subtitles are keep disappearing from the title im trying to watch.
when im running refresh metadata on the series they reappear for a few moments and then disappear again.
the subtitle name is the same as the title usually with srt extension.

Can you share movie & subtitle file names that exhibit the problem?
Also, are you using a language code? Plex can be pretty picky about such things.
Example:
/Movies
/Avatar (2009)
Avatar (2009).mkv
Avatar (2009).eng.srt

this is an example of files i had issue with.
let me clarify. the subtitles are working after adding them to the directory.
i can see them in any plex client. the problem is that they disappear after while
and i must refresh metadata ion order to restore them until the next time.
Were these files produced by the Plex optimizer?
The subtitle files are named wrong. Their names end in .1.he.srt
It must be just .he.srt or .gre.srt

it a downloaded video files in their original format.
.1.he.srt
.2.he.srt
and so on …
plex ignores the number.
this format has been working for me for a long time.
im using the number to add a few subtitles for the move and language.
the problem of disappearing subtitles happens also for other files
that has no number. it happens also with opensusbtitles.org agent downloaded subtitles.
as i mentioned before plex DOES recognize the subtitle files.
the problem it losing them after a while.
As you have experienced, it doesn’t really ignore the number.
There is no documentation about this, and I haven’t heard about this so far. Maybe you remeber this from a different video player?
Also important: these files must be inside a ‘season’ folder.
Otherwise external subtitles don’t work.
You need to follow Plex’s naming convention. You’ve basically gotten lucky so far.

Did you success getting rid of the problem? I have the exact same thing going on. Subs disapearing after a while. I have not even downloaded the subs m self they are provided by plex itself through the agent opensubtitles. I don’t think FordGuy61 understand the problem it mst be somehting else since you also mentioned having this with subs from the agent
