I have a couple of files that have a movie and subtitles, and I was wondering how do I get the subtitles to show up on the movie in plex automatically. I already have every setting set to auto for captions, but I cannot figure out how to get my external downloaded subtitles file to work on the movie. Can someone please help me out.

The subtitles must conform to the rules laid out in here:
Make sure to include the language of the subtitle.
Your media files must have the language of thier audio track(s) tagges properly. i.e. the language of the audio must not appear as “Unknown” in Plex.
Then you go edit your Plex account here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account
Edit the “Audio & Subtitle Settings”
Fill the checkbox “Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks”
If you are an English speaker, set both Preferred Audio and Subtitle language to English. (Audio and Subtitle language must use the same language!)
Set “Auto-select subtitle mode” to “Shown with foreign audio” if you only want to see “forced” subtitles.
Set it to “Always…” if you always need the regular/full subtitles.
The Roku platform introduces another wrinkle: Roku have their own subtitle settings and Plex must conform to them. So make sure that subtitles are enabled globally in the settings of your Roku device.
I have done all of that and my downloaded subtitles are still not showing up. I have the subtitles in a separate folder in the file folder, or do I need to put the subtitles file in the same folder as the file?

Ok I will try moving the subtitles file to the same folder as the video file. I have also added the plug-in sub-zero to get subtitles on files that don’t have a downloaded subtitles file, and several of my files still do not have subtitles. Is there another program/plug-in besides sub-zero that is better for getting subtitles?
