Subtitles not found

Server Version#:3.108.2

Hello !
To me Plex is almost perfect (I was on Emby before) but there is one problem I can’t resolve.
with quite a lot of films, Plex doesn’t find the local subtitle files (same folder as the film, same name). Here is an example. Screen copy of Flex with last line saying (in french) no subtitles and screen copy of the files on my NAS plex

Any ideas ?
thanks

did you follow this

https://support.plex.tv/articles/200471133-adding-local-subtitles-to-your-media/

Verify:

  • the access permissions of these files. username plex needs to have at least ‘read’ permissions
  • try omitting the special characters in all file names and replace them with their regular latin versions
  • Make sure that the movie is actually ‘matched’. This means verify the content of the guid="...." property in the Plex XML info of this movie. It must not contain local.
  • enable the ‘Local Media Assets’ agent for all movie and tv show agents under Settings > Server > Agents

I made all the verifications…
The files have at least ‘read’ permissions. I erased all special characters in file names. I dind’t find any ‘local’ word in the XML info related to the film. I did have enabled “Local Media Assets” agent.
didn’t change my problem…

Yes I did. Just for info, it was well recognized with emby for example or any PC video player.

Having the exact same issue, my local subtitles are not displayed anymore. Didn’t change anything related to configuration.

Should I understand there is no solution ?..

Is there anyone at Plex that could look at this problem ?..

I’ve been naming “CBS Sunday Morning” folders with the year, e.g. “Season 2019”, and the files with the date, e.g. “S2019E1020” for the October 20, 2019 episode. Recently, SRT files stopped being found. Based on this thread, this must have happened a couple weeks ago when I was on vacation.

After experimenting, I find that using different folder names and/or file names the SRT files can be found by PLEX.

For example, in theTVDB.com database, the Oct 20, 2019 episode is S42E05. So, after renaming the folder to “Season 42” and the files to “S42E05”, PLEX again sees the SRT file.

I experimented with some other naming combinations, and found with some combinations the SRT file is visible, and others the SRT files are not visible. NOTE: Need to scan library files after any changes.

For example:

  1. Folder name “Season 1” with episode named “S01E1020” - SRT file NOT visible. In fact sometimes with this combination, none of the files (MKV or SRT) are visible.
  2. Folder name “Season 01” with episode named “S01E1020” - SRT file visible.

I can’t explain this behavior, I’m just reporting it. Seems like a bug, but perhaps its due to the interaction with theTVDB.com database.

Waou, this is really really weird. You’re right luerman ! I tried to change folder names like you. In the case of the example I gave at the beginning (the film “Theoreme”) my folders are organized this way : FILMS / 1960 - 1980’s / Italy / Pier Paolo Pasolini. Now, I copied these folders to another location (still in “FILMS” folder) and I just changed the “s” of the era folder by “t” (like this : 1960 - 1980’t) then Plex founds the subtitles !!!

But then, as I found it really strange, I also copied the Pasolini folder to “Japan” folder (same era folder), without changing anything in names, and it also worked… I didn’t change any library settings (which is set to look into “FILMS” folder) I tried with some other films, sometimes it worked sometimes not…

In fact, I also found out that by correcting the association (but still pointing to the same name of film) it could find back the subtitles too…There is no logic !!

The only explanation I can find is that Plex has problems to manage big libraries.
