Subtitles not loading

Since about 2 weeks ago, my subtitles are no longer being detected. I’ve added about 7 movies, all with external .srt subtitles, and none are being registered by Plex. Timing of this problem sorta corresponded to v0.9.17.2.2159 upgrade. Now I’m on v1.0.0.2261. Older movies are fine - just the new ones are a problem. I have not tried downgrading - sorta wanna avoid it. I made sure I have no character mismatches by copying the file name from the .mp4 to the .srt and adding .en. Is there a bug? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Which platform is your server running on?
Which client(s) are you using?
Is the ‘Local Media Assets’ agent active?
Zip up a few of your SRTs and attach them. them for analysis.

Thanks for responding! I’m running the server on Synology DS1513+ (Intel). My clients are mostly RasPlex 1.6.1; however, I’m just trying to navigate the library through the web interface. Local Media Assets seem to be active - boxes are checked, but I’m not sure how to check beyond that. I don’t think there is an issue with the .srt since they work just fine with VLC, but I’m attaching one just in case.

Which metadata agent yre you using for your library? You can check by editing your library (go to the ‘Advanced’ tab).
Attach the mediainfo XML (copy and paste into a text editor)

Yeah, the SRT file looks good. This should work in all clients.

Are there no subtitles available for selection on the preplay screens of your movies, or is the issue that they don’t get automatically selected?

The subtitles are not available for selection in the web interface. I’m interpreting that Plex just isn’t loading the .srt as a local asset. I’m using Freebase agent for this library with ‘Localized titles’, ‘Find trailers and extras automatically’, and ‘Include extras with subtitles in Library language’ options checked. Attached is the mediainfo XML.

Try this:
Settings - Server - Agents - Freebase
is the checkbox in front of the line ‘Local Media Assets’ ticked? If not, enable it please.

Move the movie and its subtitle file(s) into a separate subfolder, so that the complete path would be
/volume1/video/Movies/Unstoppable (2010)/Unstoppable (2010).mp4
then update your movie library and wait a few minutes.

‘Local Media Assets’ were ticked. Moving the movie to its own folder did work - subtitles appeared. Moved back, refreshed, subtitles still there. Tried the same thing with one of the other “problem” movies. Same thing - moving to its own folder fixes the problem. But why??? Seems like a bug :frowning:

Thanks for your help! At least I have a work-around.

I can only offer assumptions because I don’t know the Syno platform very well. It may have to do with certain system wide limits in regard to numbers of ‘watched’ files - or something.

But I recommend you in general to use the “one subfolder per movie” approach - at least if you have external subtitles for this movie. It will make updating your movie library a little bit faster and also the entering of preplay pages of movies you didn’t visit in a while.
