Hi all! So I started having this issue with only a few movies and now it seems to be affecting all of them. All my subtitles are SRT and I’m naming them Movie (Year).eng.srt respective to the same movie file. Whenever I try to play a new movie with the subtitle (which plex reads properly as an english external SRT file, the movie won’t play. This happens on my Apple TV, web app, and iOS. If I pull the .eng tag from the name it still doesn’t work after recognizing it as an unkown external SRT file. Any ideas? I’m on version 1.12.2.4929 on a Synology NAS. Also, my agents are set to Local Media Assets (Movie) as the priority.
I have the same issue, however some titles work and some don’t. I can get subtitles on everything else so far except for one series. I’d love some feedback on what I can do. Thanks!
do you get any error message? what is the exact symptom when you click play on that movie… will it start but get stuck buffering or will it stop playing entirely?

i’ll do it again to be sure but i think it’s something to the effect of “playback error”. As soon as I choose “none” subtitles, it plays perfectly.
Also, I have tried it with the resource monitor on the display and it shows minimal resource load when trying to play with STs. When playing w/out STs the load is slightly increased to what I consider to be a normal load.
NEW INFO: The playback area of the screen goes black accept for three dots (loading…)
The error message is:
Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error
Issue confirmed on:
- Samsung Smart TV UNMU via Ethernet
- Nvidia K1 Tablet via Wifi
- HP Pavillion web interface via Wifi
No error messages. Screen goes black after hitting play and just sits there loading. The movie never starts, no messages appear, it does’t try to stop playing or anything like that…just sits there trying to load. If you turn the subtitles off, works perfectly.
