Subtitles

Hi

I cant get any subtitles to work on any movie or tv series on my Apple TV through PMS.

I have read up on these sites:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200471113-Configuring-Subtitle-Support
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204985278

I have OpenSubtitles.org (agent) logged in and on top in the agent selection.
My PMS is in english, and the prefered subtitles are english. In my server settings I have chosen subtitles as “always on”

I dont get any subtitles on anything. How can I fix this? I would like to force subtitles, always, even if the movie is in english, I still want english subtitles.

Every single movie has been converted through Cayars PMS optimized tool.

I have 650 movies and 5000 episodes.

I have a dedicated PMS
20 TB (Not all space used)
Windows 7

Thanks for any help

There was an old bug where if you had more than 1 language selected, the plugin wouldn’t work. I don’t know if that was ever fixed. So try removing the selections for (2) and (3), then refresh a few movies to see if it worked. If so, refresh the entire library.

Thanks for the reply, but this did not solve the problem unfortunately. I have disabled (2) and (3) ive refreshed many single movies, multiple times with no change, I also did a library refresh and analyze just in case, but still no subs.

Can you provide the opensubtitle.log file?

Where can I find the opensubtitle.log file?

See my signature for a link to the server logs. The opensubtitle one will be in the plug-ins log folder inside the logs folder.

Well, that log is for the show Judge Judy. OpenSubtitles doesn’t have any subs for that show. Can you try a more recent show?

Hmm… I have never watched that show (I know I have it on the server though)
I know the subtitles has worked with movies a couple of month ago.

Here is a picture of the log folder, and a link to my Google Drive which contains all opensubtitles log files
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5dzptibzTmcSjFzcGEwSmZNRlU

Log time-stamps are from May. Doesn’t look like it’s running. Have you tried removing an item, scanning the library, cleaning bundles and emptying trash, then adding it back in with a fresh scan?

Maybe it’s not running on the refresh scans.

Wow, I feel really stupid now, I linked the wrong log from another PMS. I apologize.

The correct log can be found in the update Google Drive folder:

Does this log help to solve the problem?

Sorry for not responding. Your logs all show that things could not be matched to OpenSubtitles. Their API uses an algorithm for finding the best match to your file and nothing you have appears to match. I’m still investigating to see why.

For the first time in a long time I finally see some subtitles (Very few though) I added a handfull of movies after posting this question here on the forums, and two of 5 movies actually got a working subtitle. None of the movies added a while back has the subtitles (I say none, but there might be some movies that has subtitles out of the 890 total movies) - Maybe if there is a way for me to force PMS to re-analyze/update the entire database some more subtitles will be added? I have tried the simple “update entire library”-button a millions times - which does not add subtitles in this case.

As mentioned I have put all of my movies through Cayars convert tool (stripping them from .srt etc) - but lets say I find and download all 890 .srt files for my movies and put them inside the same folder as the movies - will this give me subtitles on every single movie? (Assuming I download the correct file etc)
Is it as simple as just having the .mp4 and .srt file in the same location? (And can it all be mixed, I have no folders for my mp4 files - they are all in one huge folder)

I just grabbed the fresh and newly updated OpenSubtitles log, can be found at this link:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5dzptibzTmcMnJMaEFxVnJoRlE

Are you hitting “update”? That won’t download subtitles. You need to hit “refresh” within a movie preplay screen to test 1 movie or hit “refresh all” to update the entire library.

If you are running your movies through Cayar’s script, that may have an impact. OpenSubtitles does this hash check based on the file itself so that hash check will never match anything they have since your file hash will be different than any they have on file. I don’t know how significant a role that hash plays in matching, but it is something.

If you have the srt file and play it along side your movie, PMS will definitely pick it up. Not having your movies in folders may slow down PMS. PMS will automatically look for srt files if your have the Local Media Assets agent at the top of the list. This checks the entire folder the movie is in if that folder has changed. Without your movies in individual folders, adding any srt will trigger this check for all movies in that folder.

I am hitting “update” and “refresh” (Refresh, within a movie)

If memory serves me right, the subtitle problem occurred more often after converting all files through Cayars script. That was around the time the subtitles stopped (Stopped for the majority of movies)
That is most likely the problem then… Sad to hear, I really like running the movies through that script to get them optimized for my dedicated PMS.

You say “may slow down PMS” when having all subtitles and movies in the same folder - do you have any thoughts of how long this may take? I mean… Are we talking 5-10 seconds, or 1 minute each time launching a movie. I know this probably is impossible for you to say but its worth a shot… (lets say a total of 1000 movies)
EDIT: I ask since the method I use to transfer movies to my PMS is from my gaming PC - Bittorrent Sync over to my PMS - then Teamviewer from gaming PC to sort the movies into specific HDDs on my PMS, and this is after first running the files through Cayars script and Filebot on my gaming PC (main PC)

Thanks

I’m not sure how long it would take. I haven’t seen or done any type of benchmarks. I doubt it would be a minute, but it would be long enough that you would notice.

ok, thanks a lot for the help!

I will be adding all subtitles to the same folder as the movies, and if the loading time is huge I will just have to sort the movie + sub into different folders
