I absolutely LOVE the new DVR implementation. That being said, Houston, we have a problem.
We run our Plex viewing through Chromecast (via a Nexus 7 tablet). And while the recordings look great on the tablet, my Nexus 6 phone, and even through the web client on my Macbook, the Chromecast shrinks the picture, stretches it, and shoves it into the top 1/3 of the screen, leaving the bottom 2/3 of the screen an odd mixture of bars (see the attached image).
I’ve tried changing the recordings to MKV and that did nothing. So I’m wondering if I’m completely overlooking something that is doing this. It displays perfectly on every other device in the house, and it’s not stuttering, so it’s not a bandwidth issue.
Thoughts? This is a really strange one, and I’m disappointed because we LOVE the new DVR feature and want to use it… we just need it to work on our TV.

So, with more testing, I figured out where the issue is. For whatever reason, when I record on this particular channel, I have to crank the streaming quality all the way down to 480p (since it’s SD content). But obviously, when I do that, it makes all the content I stream that resolution, which is a no-go, considering we have lots of HD content.
It’s odd that this is the only situation where I experience this, and that it only does this with the Chromecast. Even if I just play it on the tablet, everything is fine at any streaming quality. And my wife won’t go in and change the streaming quality every time she wants to watch a particular thing. Seems odd.

Nope. And this is the only issue I have with the Chromecast, like, ever. Everything else on Plex (SD and HD content) plays perfectly fine in their respective aspect ratios. The only thing I’m having this problem with is the DVR recordings through Plex.
Cant add much other than I am having the same problem with a chromecast 2. Normal picture squashed into the top half of the screen, then the bottom half is all scrabmbled. After 20 seconds or so it plays fine for a while but then goes back to the same problem.
Do you guys get any issues with lots of buffering when playing thought chromecast? for me everything seems to play fine for recorded show through ios, plexweb, roku…but as soon as i try and play a show through my chromecast it buffers every 1-2 minutes
