What if you want to use aired order, but need to use an alternative order as well? For example, the stuff you want is “unassigned” under aired order but has been placed in an alternative order. This is ultimately the fault of whoever set it up in TVDB, and just so happens to be uneditable, but it’s really a pain to add that stuff manually since it won’t function quite the same.
A show cannot adhere to two orderings at once. If it would, the two orderings will inevitably clash at one point. You can only use one particular ordering per show.
If all orderings at TheTVDB are faulty, you can make a request to change that on their site. I think nobody will object, if the request makes sense and it can be proven that your proposal is rooted in fact.
So either amend the missing episodes to one of the existing orderings, or create a new one.
Gotcha. I put in a request last year but never got a response. I’ll check in again to see if they’ll do something.
+1 for TMDB episode groups… they seem to have far more groupings/alternative seasons then TVDB from my experience - especially with Anime allowing Arc ordering etc.
Is it not possible to use different episode ordering on separate items if they are matched to the same show?
For example, I have The Office (2005) and The Office (2005) [Superfan] both matched to The Office (2005) in my TV Shows library in Plex. The files are placed in separate show folders on the filesystem. If I change the episode ordering for The Office (2005) [Superfan] to “TheTVDB (Superfan)”, it also changes the episode ordering for The Office (2005).
I have also created a separate library named “TV Extras” with only The Office (2005) [Superfan] added. If I change the episode ordering on any of these three entries for The Office, it changes the episode ordering on ALL of them.
I would have hoped that changing the episode ordering would have been possible on an individual basis, but I understand this may be a limitation because of matching on the same show IDs. However at the very least I feel this shouldn’t be happening across libraries?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I think what you want are “Editions.” If so, vote here:
If not, explain why it is different.
This would probably alleviate the issue for multiple shows matched to the same ID in the same library, but I don’t understand why settings applied to one show in library A are applied to the same show in library B.
TMDB episode groups please!
Is this any of hope of support for TMDB episode groups?
Yes but it is not a simple thing as they work very differently, so new things have to be done to ingest them into our metadata system. After that is worked out the server folks can do their thing. I have no ETA on that how long it may take.
I hope TMDB episode groups are coming, I would love it to use it on Pokemon collection.
Just wanted to add my support for inclusion of TMDB episode groups. This would be incredibly useful! There are many shows that are better in production order and TVDB doesn’t usually have them.
Although all Episode Sorting/Alternate Order of TVDB is now supported, since TVDB does not allow uploading episode art images with text content, and some official episode art images may only be available in texted versions, this can lead to incomplete information on TVDB. Therefore, supporting TMDB’s Episode Groups is of great necessity, as TMDB has no such restrictions and is also the preferred organization for most people. It has been a long time; is there still a chance to get support?
We need TMDB episode groups!! Now! ![]()
