I have latest iOS app on my iPhone 11 running iOS 15.02, latest plex server, old player turned off in app and gen1 airpod pros and spatial audio works perfectly. No tweaks or mods needed.

It’s been working fine since iOS 15 launched.

Same here. iOS sees the audio from Plex as stereo even though it is 5.1 in the app. With Netflix, for example, the iOS volume control widget says “multichannel” and you get proper multichannel spatial audio. Not that weird “spatialize stereo” option which really shouldn’t be a thing.

Hi There,

Same here, working well since iOS15
 Thank you Plex team !!!
Except with locally downloaded content (since death of “Sync” feature), which seems to be systematically converted as stereo

Surprisingly I have the exact same restriction with Netflix, as online content can benefit from spatial audio, but downloaded one will remain stereo only

Any advice from Plex side ?

It seems like its downloaded as multi-channel but played back as stereo using the “new player” ( which is the only player that works with the new “downloads” feature.

I’m confused about the spatial audio and dolby atmos features announced in the latest iOS 15.1 and tvOS 15.1, and homepod 15.1.1 software updates.

I watch plex mainly through my Apple TV 4K that is connected to my pair of homepods (stereo). Will I be able to get my plex content to play with spatial audio and dolby atmos?

How is it that this still does not work for MPV/new player after over a year of the spatial audio feature on iOS launching? Works on AppleTV just fine with either player. Either the transcoder should be able to know when I could be listening with a surround device, and copy the selected AC3 audio into the transcode, or MPV should support spatial audio. Right now almost all of my videos wont play without a transcode on the old player, and the new player is
not smart enough to make this work.

c’mon

Edit: i just did this thing: Spatial Audio for Plex on iOS | dwffls

at this point, this should be a checkbox for the transcoder in server settings, or a hint i can set on my iOS device
or something
, c’mon now plex, this is ridiculous.

Eagerly anticipating any news on this as well.

Coming back from Infuse after the HDR banding issues were fixed, this is the one thing which is missing now. Please add spatial audio to the new video player

It’s just not gonna happen with MPV player.

I don’t think it should even be a premium feature at this point, but rather an expectation. It’s disappointing it’s still not incorporated.

If they do eventually add it, they should do so quietly. Announcing so late in the game would be embarrassing.

Why? What is it about MPV that prevents spatial audio?

Simply no interest in developing it, it would seem.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that

Well that sounds encouraging.:grinning:
Honestly though I have never been sure if Plex uses a stock MPV (or a modified version in the same way as I believe exo player is a heavily modified version on Android.)

Looking at GitHub for MPV I have seen a few mentions in the distant past regarding spatial audio but nothing that received much follow up.

Is @DaveBinM our best friend?!
