Supported 4k Content Question

I’m just getting into learning about 4k video content. I’ve got my hands on a movie in 4k, but when I put it in my movie file directory, Plex will never recognize it. I know there will be various support for playback depending on the client. But I’m just starting at the basics of getting a video into my Library. This file is not showing up. The video is an mkv container and the codec details are:

  Stream #0:0: Video: hevc (Main 10), yuv420p10le(tv, bt2020nc/bt2020/smpte2084), 3840x2160, SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn (default)

What about this format is not supported? What should I change via re-encode?

Plex doesn’t actually consider the content of a file when adding it to a library. You can place a text file in the library directory, name it like it’s a video file and Plex will add it to your library.

How is your file named / organized inside the library directory?

Good call. I have had my process for adding files for years and it always worked. I am doing this differently as I am testing new formats. The file was owned by the wrong user and not visible to Plex.

Thanks!
