I’m still on the quest for the perfect Plex client, next on my list to get is the Nvidia Shield which supposedly will solve all my wildest dreams. For now, I love the Xbox One S Plex client, it does everything except DTS playback. My server isn’t powerful enough to transcode, which is fine, I’ve gotten by.
My scenario:
Xbox One S for all my Plex media except DTS. Playback in unplayable because it’s trying to transcode.
Samsung Plex TV app for all my DTS audio that the Plex app somehow pulls the AC3 or AAC audio track (can’t remember which one right now) from it and transcoding is not needed.
Example: Jason Bourne is DTS HD MA track. Unplayable on Xbox One, but playable on Samsung Plex TV app because audio now shows AC3/AAC.
How is it the Samsung Plex TV app is able to pull the AC3 audio track, but the Xbox One Plex app is not even an option for me to choose? This would help me to use the Xbox One S as a client exclusively for now.

Any ideas?
The only way that this would be possible is if you have a second track that is either AC3 or AAC. And if that is the case you can select that audio track before starting playback on the Xbox One.
If that’s not the case we would need to see your server log when you play the item back on the Samsung app so we can see what is happening.
I just took a look at the audio codec on my Samsung and need to correct myself.
It’s actually DCA audio, which apparently is DTS still? Has me a bit confused but I’m unsure why the Xbox will pull the DTS HD MA file and my Samsung will put the DCA codec, which doesn’t need transcoding.
DCA is DTS. You can pull a DTS Core track out of a DTS HD track. Your Samsung supports playing a DTS track, but the Xbox One does not.
Basically until Microsoft releases a DTS decoder to 3rd party app developers then Plex will need to transcode the audio when the Xbox One tries to play it back.
Currently, Microsoft is also testing bitstreaming support (With the insider preview program). Once that goes live it shouldn’t be too long before the developers enable support for that which would allow your xbox to pull the DTS stream and send that on to your TV for decoding. But how long until that gets released out of the preview program by Microsoft and subsequently supported in the app is hard to say as neither Microsoft or Plex normally release those kind of timelines.
