Sync is Dead (almost). Long Live Downloads! (Part 2 - iOS)

Is there an option in downloads to shuffle or play the entire downloaded library? I downloaded 2 playlists but I can’t seem to “shuffle all” the downloaded music from both playlists at the same time. I think sync had the ability but I’m not seeing it for the downloaded library.

Yes, from the Downloads page, so to library. Visit your music library. At the top should be an option to shuffle.

Edit - Oh wait. iOS doesn’t have that. Looks like a bug. I will get this filed with the team.

is there an update on this please?

Got the new iPadOS Plex. 7.25 , (iPadOS 15.1)
Downloads still not working.
logs attached

I did some exploration and discovered that

  1. Using the Old Player or activating PIP seems to give the same result. Failure to playback downloaded content.

  2. It worked for me with a few instances of x264 encoded content (set to ORIGINAL for both Video and Audio, and with Maximize Compatability)… but it failed for x265 encoded files WHEN downloaded. Both files worked when streaming from server (with maximum quality settings and no transcoding)

I don’t see it mentioned above, but Downloads is not automatically deleting podcast episodes as configured.

I configured mine to delete podcast episodes after a week, but the downloads have been sitting there for a month, undeleted. It also keeps on downloading new episodes, taking up more and more space.

I recently tried canceling the download, clearing the downloads, and setting it back up again, but weeks later see the same problem with not deleting podcast downloads as configured.

I wonder if this is a podcast only bug that hasn’t been noticed.

When will Downloads replace Sync in the “Status” section of the Media Server? There does not appear to be any way to see what has been “downloaded” as “downloaded” items don’t appear in the “Sync” section.

Is there any way to either pause certain downloads, or prioritize others? Sometimes, have a sizable number of downloads, and want to get some first. Doesn’t look like there’s a way to do this.

I’ve discovered that by going Downloads–>Libraries–>TV Shows, it’ll show me just the shows that have episodes downloaded. So, that largely solves the problem, albeit not elegantly.

I’ve still heard nothing back after submitting my logs over a week ago. I’m concerned that less than 6 weeks from Sync being deprecated, there are still many people for who Downloads plain does not work, whether that’s the DNS rebinding issue or other unknown reasons. Does Plex have a plan they can share with us to reassure us that either the download feature will work reliably before the end of the year, or to extend sync to ensure people aren’t left short without the ability to download video media?

No, but it’s something we hope to add in the future.

We still haven’t identified the issue for you. Your logs do show errors, but it’s unclear what is causing them. Can you reproduce and get me a new log using the latest version of the app? We have added more logging info the last few updates to help identify more issues so there may be more info available now.

Thanks for this. I tried to download a Tintin TV episode at 18:31

That says you’re still on the 7.24.1 version for iOS. 7.25 came out last week. Can you update to that and try again?

I’ve just checked and I’m on the latest version of 7.24.5.5173. “Up to date” according to the server

Huh? The server only tells you what the server is on? You need to check on the App Store on the device itself.

Sorry, I misread your previous post. I’ve updated now, still not working.

Get me a new log. I want to see if this contains any more info.

Hello! Is there any possibility to revert back to an older Server and App versions so that I can continue to use Sync until Downloads works as intended? My iPad can’t get any of my videos synced (yes, I added plex.direct to my DNS whitelist, and the videos are all more than 2GB). I use PLEX mostly on the go as I don’t have time to watch anything at home, and mobile network usage is a no-go.

I don’t know what to do anymore, any advice?

You can still use Sync. Just turn off Downloads in the client. It will then use the old Sync method.
