Sync stuck on "Waiting to download"

I have the same question as I am running plex on the 2015 Shield TV, I just did a test trying to sync to an S8+ running Android P and an original Nvidia shield tablet running 7.3. The S8+ from outside the network and the tablet from inside the network. I did the same test file for both plus tried a bunch of different media all which converted successfully and remain on “waiting to download”.

On the tablet I also uninstalled and reinstalled the app and I also noticed it doesn’t ask for permission to storage anymore so I manually gave it permission.

One last thing for 7.3 which isn’t a huge deal but if I adopt storage with any SD card, Plex doesn’t see the extra storage in internal storage. The slider remains at 8.8GB free and can’t be moved any higher even though there is a 400GB SD card in there.

If I leave it as unadopted storage, Plex sees it right away and you can slide it up to 400GB no problem. That one isn’t a big deal but just letting you know it’s broken

As stated, 1.18.6.2348 fixes syncing on Shield (per release notes and my personal experience), until they break it again.

Updated my Plex to the latest version, still refuses to download tv shows on to my mobile device.

F*cking garbage

Interesting (although not surprising), as I haven’t tried to download a TV show recently. My issue was syncing any of my ripped FLAC music (MP3 was fine). FLAC is now working again, I’ll have to try a TV show when I get home tonight.

I synced a TV show last night (1080 down to 720) and this morning it’s on my phone, running 1.18.6.2368 PMS on Shield. When you said latest, are you using the public release or part of beta? Because 1.18.5.2309 is the latest public release, which doesn’t have the Sync fix yet.

Hi brigrigg, how do you install version 1.18.6.2368 PMS on Shield? My shield 2015 shows version 1.18.4.2171, and no updates available as far as I can see…

Thanks

These are instructions for 2019 model (although steps should be the same as the software is the same for all hardware versions as long as you’re running the latest Shield Experience (currently 8.02). https://www.androidcentral.com/how-update-apps-nvidia-shield-tv

And 1.18.6.2368 is now a public release (although 1.18.5 was already public, so you’re a couple releases behind).

Upgraded to 1.18.6.2368 and I am stuck on ‘waiting to download’ for both TV and Movies on a Ipad Pro IOS13.3.1. Very annoying.

Really, as a previous build of 1.18.6 fixed that issue for me (PMS on Shield). Were they downloads that were previously stuck prior to the upgrade too and still stuck? If so, try deleting/removing them from Sync and starting hem again.

I am using PMS on Ubuntu 18.04.4. I have tried deleting and syncing again, it converts them fine but then just sits there ‘waiting’.

Interesting as this was supposedly fixed in the second to last update, “(FreeBSD) Fixes for database problems when syncing”. As I and others were having the same issue, and that release fixed it for many of us. But maybe there’s another issue, which isn’t surprising given the age of this OP, and the Sync feature still has it’s issues.

So many people having the same problem and Plex ignoring them for years. Unbelievable.

Just update PMS on Nvidia Shield TV 2015 to 1.18.6.2368 and sync fixed!

I have just gained new insights into this matter. And I hope that Plex will read this and finally solve this problem.

I’m still talking about the Android App, of course the latest version, also server-side (QNap)

I still don’t know the exact problem, but how could I, I have a workaround. If I look in the syncs on my mobile phone, which songs are not synced and then go and convert them from mp3 or wma to FLAC, put the songs back in the playlists again (is also a construction site), then they will be synced! Wow, a miracle has happened!

I have been able to sort this issue, I’m also trying to sync a large library, about 75% through, files would convert but sit on wait to download, whether set to original quality or not. I tried everything I could see mentioned above, restarting everything, reinstalling and deleting synced content, refreshing, giving storage permissions, etc… In the end, I went into my app settings and force stopped plex, now it’s downloading the remaining files fine. I noticed that although I could kill plex in android’s task manager, there was still the stuck sync notification at the top, so thought it must be still running. Seems it was the case. However, I am having to do it multiple times to get it all done

Been having the same issues as everyone else for a long time now.

Based on my own experiences thus far, I’ve noticed two general things:

  • I’ve only ever experienced this issue when syncing to my Android device’s microSD card, both when formatted as internal storage and as portable storage. Syncing to the device itself has usually not been an issue.
  • I have sometimes been able to get sync to work with my microSD card when utilizing my carrier network (Verizon) instead of Wifi. Not once have I gotten sync to work with the latter.

I’ll update this as I come to learn more.

Sometimes this seems to help yes but not always. Think there is more then one reason in this bugy App.

Just to clarify, running PMS on Shield Pro 2019: 1.18.0.1913
Updated to PMS 1.19.3.2839 with no improvement.
attempting sync to Android phone: 8.0.2.17816

Android phone claims “There is an error with this item”
PMS Sync says it’s awaiting a transcode
PMS transcode claims there are no items in the transcoding queue.

Outside of attempting a sync, I can easily and successfully transcode an optimized version of anything on the server at any resolution.
Attempting to sync a previously made optimized version really mucks things up. Sometimes the app gets stuck at 50% (meaning nothing ever even started copying and never will), OR it claims to have downloaded instantly, (while nothing ever did).

Having just synced a 6000+ file music library on Android, I’ve come to the conclusion that, in a high speed transfer setting, plex can’t write the transactions to the database quick enough. With regular manual pauses (roughly every 100-200 files) I was able to sync 2000 files, this was on my local AC WiFi network with around 200Mbps bandwidth which meant a Plex sync speed of numerous files per second. In a area of my house with poorer WiFi coverage meaning a sync speed of just one file per second Plex was able to sync happily for more than a thousand files without stopping.

This suggests that Plex needs to either throttle the sync or introduce a pause after a certain number of files to allow the DB to successfully write the transactions or better cache the transactions for writing to the DB.

I found that if syncing a large number of items to android, regular pauses every 100 - 200 files, waiting a couple of seconds while the thumbnail pictures change and then resuming seems to allow large syncs. If I missed the pause and the sync froze, I found that pausing the sync and properly closing the app and then re-opening the app would allow the sync to proceed albeit by having to re-sync some of the files that had seemingly previously synced
