Synced content disappeared with latest updates (chromebook)

OK, think I found the source of the issue.
My Acer Chromebook Tab 10 (an Arm based processor) has the download link in the Android app. But my Intel based Chromebooks (Acer Chromebook Spin with an i5 and the Pixel Slate with an i5) do NOT have the download option.

That doesn’t help fix the problem, but it does identify where the problem likely resides in the Android app.

I use the Android app on my Pixelbook so I can sync for offline playback when I am traveling.

The Sync/Download option has disappeared from my media. It is still on the Android app on my phone when on the same wifi in the same house (so I know where it should be), but it is no longer visible on the 3 dots menu on media when running the app on my Pixelbook. It USED to be there but seems to have disappeared.

Everything else seems to work. I have tried to uninstall/reinstall and logging out/logging in. I am a Plex Pass lifetime member. The only issues I see is that the app crashes when I click the Manage button after selecting Downloads and Sync (which is empty) and when I click on the More option when customizing the menu, there is a red OFFLINE tag about halfway down (but media plays fine, so I am not offline).

I am on the most recent server version and have tried both the most recent Android app version and the beta Android app.

Any ideas?

Having an issue with a couple Chromebooks. (Pixel Slate on Beta ChromeOS and an Acer Spin 13 on Stable ChromeOS). Neither of the Chromebooks, when I download Plex from Play Store are able to see the download button for Shows and Movies.
They log in and pair up jsut fine. I can see the Devices in the web console. But, if I try to push a sync to it from the Web, it’s not an available device to send it to. And within the client itself on the Chromebook it doesn’t have an option to download or sync.

The Android Phone (Oneplus 7 Pro Running Open Beta 2) is working just fine with Plex. I haven’t used it in months on there, but it’s working just fine to download shows and movies)

Running Plex Server from an Nvidia Shield (version=: 1.21.3.4014).
Android Phone Version : 8.13.0.22880
Chromebook Version: 8.13.0.22880 (Android version on the Chromebooks is 9)

I combined a couple other related threads in to this one. (replies may seem out of wack/order, that’s my fault)

Dev’s are aware of the issue, per BigWheels post earlier above.

Hopefully this will be resolved as ongoing work with sync functionality progresses into public releases.

What architecture are these? We found an issue with x86_64 causing an issue. We are investigating but nothing to share yet.

I have 2 Intel based Chromebooks that don’t work and 1 ARM based Chromebook that does.

I’d say it’s inline with the x86_64 you’re seeing.

I’ve got a bunch of workstations here if you need someone to stress test.

The x86_64 could make sense, I have the problem with my acer chromebook CP713-2W.

CPU: Intel Core i5

Spec: CP713-2W-59SE - Tech Specs | Laptops | Acer Canada

I’m available to test anything if you need to. BTW Thanks for the follow up!

Mine is an Acer Chromebook Spin 13 Intel core i3 also x86_64 that doesn’t work. Another piece of supporting evidence of this theory.

HP Chromebook 360 (x86-x64) with the same problem. My daughter’s Lenovo Chromebook C330 doesn’t have that issue and I believe that’s an ARM device.

I just received a Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 (Intel Core i3, x86_64, released yesterday), and expected to be able to fill a 512GB microSD card, but I also don’t see the Sync option.

This is what I see on a completely fresh Chrome OS install with the Android Plex app:

I’d also be happy to help test any solutions if need be!

Thanks everyone for helping to confirm the x86 issue. I don’t have any news to share yet.

Any news?

In case people are wondering. Just got the latest ChromeOS stable 89 on my i5 Slate. Made sure to have the updated Plex app, still the same issues with sync. I didn’t expect anything to change, but wanted to let everyone know.

Having the same issues with an HP 14a-na0023cl, but works on an older HP 11 G1. Both are intel. One thing I noticed, that I didn’t see mentioned, is that if I click Manage on the Download and Sync page the app crashes out.

It is also worth noting the device may not identify as mobile. I notice some apps act more like a non-mobile device and Hulu won’t even install.

Hoping this gets resolved soon. I feel cheated for buying the plex pass with the main reason being sync, and it has not worked for a long time now. I would like to get some details from PLEX about when this will be fixed or how they are going to compensate or refund us for selling us a non functional product. I feel like our issue is being ignored. I understand bugs and having to fix issues, but the timelines on this one is just unacceptable.

I just bought a new chromebook and leaving for family vacation w/ no data! The Plex app crashes as soon as I hit manage under Downloads and Sync… ugh! Help! Leaving soon.

I’m waiting for my Pixel Slate to update to Android 11 (on the Beta, so it should be coming soon). It’s a long shot, but I’m curious if that will fix it.

Will post back as soon as I have anything to share.

5 months later and still not fixed, come on chaps this a feature we paid for

It’s actually the only feature I paid for.
